Anglicanism: it really is all about sex

Anglican clergy expel endless volumes of hot air on climate change, racism, mosquito nets, universal basic income, gender-based violence – and so on. Nothing about Jesus, salvation, eternity, heaven and hell, of course, but we’ll save that for another time. They would like you to think that these weighty temporal predicaments occupy every minute of their waking thoughts. It’s not true. What really excites the average Anglican bishop is sex. They can’t get enough of it – particularly the homoerotic variety. When sex is on the agenda, the climate can boil for all they care.

There are so many bishops foaming at the mouth in horror at the very, very small possibility that they may be asked to consider that the only legitimate form of marriage is between a man and a woman, that it would waste terabytes of bandwidth to list them – so I will confine myself to some Canadian bishops:

Here is the statement from Bishop Susan Bell:

I know there has been concern over the proposed reaffirmation of Lambeth Resolution 1.10. Please be assured that in our discussions, in our fellowship, and in our conclusions, I will bear witness to the many decisions we have made in the Diocese of Niagara to embrace equal marriage and uphold the dignity of every human being.

And here is the statement from the Diocese of Edmonton’s Bishop Stephen London:

I do have to say I was extremely disappointed to see in the resolution about Human Dignity that there is a call to reaffirm Lambeth resolution I.10, from 1998, which is against marriage equality for our LGBTQ+ community. This goes against what I thought we were doing in speaking where we find we have a common mind as a communion. It is clear that there is no common mind on this issue

Here is Sam Rose, bishop of Eastern Newfoundland and Labrador:

And here is Todd Townshend, Bishop of the Diocese of Huron (click on the image to read it more clearly):

And last (for the moment), but not least, Anna Greenwood-Lee, Bishop of the Diocese of BC:

To anticipate the objection that this is all about love – it isn’t, it’s about sex.

If the homosexual clergy in the Anglican church simply loved other men but either did not want or had no intention of having sex with them, none of this would be being discussed. Lambeth resolution 1.10 would not have been written, the communion would not be divided, GAFCON and ACNA would not exist.

It is all about sex; clergy who deny this are trying to deceive you.

And the headlines become more raucous

Here is one from the Daily Mail:

Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby BANS gay bishops from bringing same-sex partners to global Anglican gathering in London to keep conservative church leaders happy

The paper goes on to note that “The future of an international Anglican church summit is at risk after gay bishops were told they could not bring their same-sex spouses.” So there is some good news: Lambeth 2020 may not happen or, as a consolation prize, it will be the last one.

The university hosting the event is under fire from students, one of whom claims it is putting Mammon over morals. And, since she is an “LGBT student” (all simultaneously? I wonder how that works?) doing a PhD in biodiversity management, she obviously has a firmer grasp on the finer points of morality than the collective efforts of Justin Welby his bishops, clergy and the university administration. Admittedly, that isn’t saying much.

The student notes that the university has sinned against the god of inclusion. She has a point: it’s the same god that the Church of England worships.

LGBT student Natalie Yoh, 25, who’s doing a PhD in biodiversity management, accused the university of putting income above moral values.

She said: ‘I was shocked that this is happening in Kent, which I have always thought of as an inclusive place.

‘I think it would suggest, whether rightly or wrongly, that they are putting their commercial interests above their moral values.

‘Whether or not they have made the decision about who is allowed to attend, they’re still choosing to host an event that’s being exclusive.’

The rejoicing of the bishops’ wives

The sound of rejoicing from bishops’ wives whose husbands are no longer compelling them to be bored into oblivion at Lambeth 2020 is resounding from Timbuktu to Tobermory.

This is because the wives/husbands (we need a new word: “wifebands”?) of homosexual bishops have not been invited to attend.

The Bishop of Liverpool, martyr to the cause, will sacrifice himself and attend while leaving his wife at home. In a safe space.

All this is assuming Lambeth 2020 actually happens.

From here:

The Bishop of Liverpool has said he will attend an international summit of Anglican leaders without his wife next year, in protest at a bar on the partners of gay clergy.

Rt Rev Paul Bayes described the decision to prevent same-sex partners of clergy from attending the 2020 Lambeth Conference as an “act of exclusion”.

In a message posted on Twitter, he said: “I deeply regret that, in the fractious complexities of our life as a worldwide people, this act of exclusion has taken its place.

“It is a grief to me and to my wife, and to many others. Despite this, I aim to attend the Conference, alone, in the hope of a common future.”

The Anglican Communion – which includes national churches from 165 countries – was forced to clarify its stance on the matter last week, following “misunderstanding”.

General Secretary Dr Josiah Idowu-Fearon said: “The invitation process has…needed to take account of the Anglican Communion’s position on marriage which is that it is the lifelong union of a man and a woman.

In more news, Bishop Bayes has informed Jesus that he should also voluntarily absent himself from Lambeth 2020 for claiming his Father is guilty of an even more heinous “act of exclusion”:

Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
