Racist Rhyming Resistor Reprimand

From here:

A teacher has been reprimanded for communicating a racist and sexual rhyme while teaching a pupil at a Sussex school.

James Hersey, 68, was found guilty of unacceptable professional conduct by the General Teaching Council.

The hearing heard he was teaching electronics to a Year 11 pupil at Oriel High School in Crawley when the incident happened in March last year.

Mr Hersey said he was a caring teacher who had made a mistake.

The disciplinary hearing was told Mr Hersey was teaching a student a rhyme to help remember the sequence for the colour coding of resistors.

Yet more barmy political correctness. I remember learning a number of these rhymes when I was young; I’m sure everyone is dying to know what they are:

Boys better remember our young girls become very good wives
Bad boys rape our young girls behind victory garden walls.
Bad boys run our young girls behind victory garden walls.
Bad boys rape our young girls but Violet gives willingly.
Black boys rape our young girls but Violet gives willingly.
Black Boys Ravish Only Young Girls But Violet Gives Willingly
Bright Boys Rave Over Young Girls But Veto Getting Wed.
Bad Beer Rots Our Young Guts But Vodka Goes Well
Bad Boys Rape  Our Young  Girls  But  Virgins Go Without
Big boys race our young girls but Violet generally wins.
Bye Bye Rosie Off You Go Birmingham Via Great Western
Bye Bye Rosie Off You Go Bristol Via Great Western
Bye Bye Rosie Off You Go But Via Great Western
Bye Bye Rosie Off You Go do Become a Very Good Wife
Bill Brown Realized Only Yesterday Good Boys Value Good Work

  1. Bad boys rape our young girls but Violet gives willingly

I learned that in the RCAF in 1964 along with the tuned circuit rule Above Resonance Series tuned circuits are Inductive or ARSL. Then there was the Left Hand Rule which we were not encouraged to engage in, at least not in the classroom.

  2. “Black boys rape our young girls but Violet gives willingly” IS pretty nasty though. Honestly, is that all the rhymer could come up with?

  3. Context people. This was the 60’s I maintain a blog for my old high school in Toronto. A trip through yearbooks and guess what, a whole lot of middle class white kids, the occasional Oriental and no East Indian or Africans. Scripture was read every morning. PC was the name of a political party. Gay kids, not that I ever saw and teenage pregnancy? A few girls went to Europe for six months but no day care in our school or lock-downs and switchblades were available but never used.

  4. Yes, I know the rhyme well, having studied electronics in high school myself.

A common rhyme to master those resistor color codes for that test: Black, Brown, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Violet, Grey, White.

    I learned that in 1978.

This is not Mr Hersey’s mistake. It is the “mistake” of many thousands of teachers and many millions of students.

    Let’s litigate!

  5. Very bad taste in thoughts, theme & summary. There’s nicer things to mention to others. There’s nice topics based on the Bible. What about ECC 3,’there’s a time for…’.
