New primate intends to make changes

When she was Bishop of Huron, Linda Nicholls closed and amalgamated many parishes that were not financially viable. No one cares much whether a parish is theologically viable, of course; if they did, there would be none left.

Now she is primate, Nicholls tells us there will be national changes. Painful changes. A clue to the nature of the changes is found in this snippet: “a significant decline in contributions from the dioceses to the national church”. Whatever euphemisms are thrown around to obfuscate the changes, it is easy to guess what they will be.

From here:

The Anglican Church of Canada’s new primate says her top priority will be a review of the church’s mission and ministry—a re-examination of its role that could result in “painful” change for some as the church adjusts to challenging times.

Linda Nicholls, bishop of the diocese of Huron, was elected the church’s 14th primate in Vancouver on July 13, partway through General Synod. She is the first woman in the history of the Anglican Church of Canada to hold the position.

In her first interview with the Anglican Journal as primate, two days after the installation, Nicholls said her first priority would be to get started on a strategic review of the national church’s ministry and mission. The review, mandated by General Synod after a vote July 14, is to be undertaken by the Council of General Synod (CoGS), which the primate chairs, and is to culminate in the presentation of a strategic plan to General Synod when it next meets in 2022.

The process, Nicholls said, is likely to bring improvements as well as change that some will find difficult.

  1. “Changes”:
to be extracted from Niagara Diocese Bishop Bell’s capacious self-confessed “back pocket” which concealed ‘A Word to The Church’; of which no mention; nor accounting of yet in the recent edition of ACC ‘Pravda’.
Was the Primate-Elect complicit re.’A Word’ prior to the GS marriage Canon vote?
    CBC not curious?
They were in 2016 when then Bishop Nicholls publicly declined to violate Canon law by preempting the 2019 General Synod due process, deliberations and vote re. lawful Church sanction of ss ‘marriage’.
Another creative way to violate Canon law is to “change” it.

  2. NIcholls cannot seem to get it through her head that people are not joining the Anglican Church of Canada because the denomination has gone too “liberal”, people do not want a church that offers “same-sex weddings. The majority of people want orthodoxy, the Holy Bible and holy tradition when they attend church. Surely Nicholls has closed enough churches, why can she not figure why new people are not joining the Anglican Church?

      • Most people knows that the ACoC has fallen due to accepting liberal values such as same sex “weddings”, watering down the Holy Bible and embracing values that are not orthodox. Here in Canada perhaps dozens of ACoC churches have closed or been watered down.

        • The correct term for the values now accepted by the ACoC is APOSTATE. History shows the APOSTATE bishops have not only evicted true genuine Christians but have legally stolen properties which were paid for by these genuine Christians. Until the ACoC rids itself of these APOSTATES it will continue its rapid descent into the abyss.

        • Yes, I know that David. It appears you are assuming that Nichols has not figured out why people are not joining, and are leaving, the ACoC. My question supposes that she is well aware of the reasons why this is occurring and is carrying on with the current agenda anyway. In fact, I conclude that it would be impossible for her NOT to know the reasons. I suggest that conclusion, in view of her actions, has profound implications.

          • Is it, I wonder, that the bishops see themselves as iconoclasts, ahead of the trend, forging new ideologies, really as pioneers battling superstition and ignorance. That is those of us who are orthodox. Battling the congregants essentially. Is this a house divided?

Blundering ahead without a thought to those of us, faithful anglicans our whole lives, as myself, who now have to leave to maintain our integrity? Who love the liturgy, the gospel, the sung psalms, the great old hymns of the church.

In all the handwringing and weeping of the Bishops, could they spare a few tears for those of us who loving our Anglican tradition now say ‘goodbye’.

One has to wonder why they go through the liturgy at all since it is all taken from scripture.
Why they want to hear the gospel read. Perhaps they will rewrite all that stuff now that the ‘abomination of desolation’ is enthroned in the ACoC.

Will we have beautiful buildings, but with no one in them. I don’t see the churches full of the LGBTQ community. Certainly ours isn’t.

            • The Scriptural reference + Matthew 24:15 “…the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the Prophet, stand in the Holy place…” is taught by our LORD Jesus Christ Who, uniquely in Holy Writ, references the Prophet Daniel, the End of Days Prophet whose Prophetic clock pertains to Ingathered Israel v. 32 vs. the Gentile Nations; the Text sets down the marks of the anti-Scriptural spirit of antichrist which will manifest in his actual person + Daniel 9; 11(37);12.
In recent years we have witnessed this spirit so standing literally in Ingathered Israel: in Jerusalem. Prior to that it has manifested, and continues to do so, in Fallen and Falling Christian Churches.

  3. The only change that is required in the ACoC or any diocese within same is for APOSTATE so-called bishops and clergy repentance and returning to the GOSPEL and stop the worship of the god of political expediency. Tragically this was not happen as long as the laity sleeps and the only chance for return to the GOSPEL is for these so-called bishops repentance and return to the GOSPEL.

  4. I will wait to see if any comments worth reading are posted in the comments section following the article in the Anglican Journal.

    • It’s just arrived, and in my view ranks right up there in usefulness with expired copies of the old Eaton’s catalogue of blessed memory.

It’s a very long time, actually about twenty years, since I wrote this in my ‘Dialogue with Hugh’:–

Some people have an entirely principled objection to a situation in which their growing children may be encouraged to think of this kind of relating as being on all fours with heterosexual relations, or to come to their local parish church and be ‘turned’ by their friendly neighbourhood Anglican priest.
