Catholics to march in Ottawa Gay Pride parade

I knew Catholics could learn something from Anglicans.

From here:

You are invited to join the Capital Pride Parade on August 28th, 2011, at 1:00PM.

We march every year, because we want to tell the Pride Parade’s participants and viewers that it is possible to live in integrity as a person of faith, who is both gay and deeply spiritual.  We believe that there is a place for everybody at Christ’s table.

Please join us at the Pride Parade and help make this message heard. All people have the same gift of love to share! Following the march, at 2:00PM, the group invites participants to the St. Joe’s Supper Table (151 Laurier Street East) for light snacks and refreshments. This event is sponsored by the University of Ottawa’s Gay Catholics, Christians and Allies Group (GCCA).

  1. St. Joe’s supper table is a ministry to the urban poor and homeless. What are they doing using it for a sort of “reception”? That is completely inappropriate.

  2. It would be inappropriate no matter who they were. People donate to that ministry thinking they are feeding people who might otherwise go hungry, after all.

  3. Kate, you are misunderstanding the wording. The GCCA group has met in the past in the building where the Supper Table is located, but they have always met in another part of the building and they have always brought their own snacks when they had snacks. There is no way the group would be consuming donated food.

Meals are only served at St. Joe’s from Monday to Friday from 5:00 to 6:15 and this event takes place on a Sunday at 2 pm, so the “Supper Table” only indicates the location.

  4. There most certainly is a place for everyone at Christ’s Table. And his message of “give up your sinful ways and follow me” is also for everyone.
