Anglican Church of Canada: $900k in debt, treasurer resigns, seeks new treasurer who “sees change as an opportunity”

Looking for someone keen to see impending bankruptcy as an opportunity, to “pick up the challenge.” Anyone?

From here:

With the prospect of a 2012 budget deficit of $900,000 looming large, General Synod is on the hunt for a new treasurer to replace Michele George, who resigned Oct. 1.

According to Rob Dickson, chair of the search committee, the treasurer must be someone who sees change as an opportunity. “We’re in turbulent times and we need somebody who is keen to pick up that challenge,” Dickson told the Anglican Journal.

  1. Muriel

I think they’d need Midas himself to pull them out of their tail spin. Although, when it comes to flim flam, the ACoC would give Madoff a run for his money.

  2. The accountant within me is crying. Debt and deficit are not the same thing. A deficit is the amount by which a person or organization is paying out more than it is bringing in over a given period of time. Debt is the amount that a person or organization owes to someone else.

A deficit is not always a bad thing. For example, money being spent mostly upfront on a project that will last several years and that money will be recovered by the end of the project. A deficit is a big problem when it is chronic, which I think has become the situation within the ACoC.
