Toronto Bishop Kevin Robertson marries his same-sex partner

Robertson was married at St. James Cathedral. The Diocese of Niagara’s Bishop Susan Bell presided, extinguishing any glimmer of hope that Bell would depart from the radically liberal agenda of her predecessor, Michael Bird.

The Anglican Church of Canada will not officially perform same-sex marriages until the final vote to change the marriage canon takes place at the 2019 general synod. The fact that Robertson has ignored that detail confirms that, whichever way it goes, the 2019 vote will be as far removed from meaning anything as the ACoC is from Christianity.

From here:

The Diocese of Toronto congratulates Bishop Kevin Robertson and Mr. Mohan Sharma, who were married today at St. James Cathedral in the presence of their two children, their families and many friends, including Archbishop Colin Johnson and Bishop Andrew Asbil.

(Bishop Kevin and Mohan, who have been a couple since 2009, had their relationship blessed in 2016 according to the Pastoral Guidelines of the Diocese of Toronto and are now married under the marriage provision of the same guidelines.)

We wish them much joy in their marriage.

  1. Pair of bum-boys and a fake priestess. Rather funny really. But why on earth have the courts allowed these notoriety-seeking freaks control of church property?

    • To Mahatma Yogi :

Such language, descending to vulgarity, may be heart-felt, and I do feel that the topic is worthy of some linguistic colour, so to speak, but it gives fuel to those who would hurl the specious term “homophobia” and its like at those who oppose same-sex “marriage”. They will also accuse us, regarding such language, of “hate”, to which the appropriate response is the precept of: hate the sin, but love the sinner. In that vein, I think there is good reason for a “phobia” about homosexuality. Also in that vein, although it may be hard, we are required to exercise love (agape) towards the three humans smiling in their sin in that photograph.

A refresher read of the Gospels and the Epistles may result in less immoderate language, but with the same essential content.

      • Anthony Wallis, I suggest that your narrow cultural Anglo sense of politeness and agreeable manners has overshadowed your accuracy here and led you into ungrounded tone-policing. If you read the Gospels and Epistles you will find plenty of very strong, unpleasant and insulting language.

It is very instructive to read the New Testament and separate out how Jesus and the Apostles tell people to speak and behave and how they actually speak and behave themselves. Very instructive.

  2. Why does any true Christian remain in the ACoC. Is it in the hope of shining light in a dark place? They will not rest until every light is extinguished. Is it in the hope of being a voice of truth? They will not rest until every such voice is silenced or expunged.
Wake up people! Come out of her!

  3. From the Liturgy of The Celebration and Blessing of a Marriage [ BAS, the BCP is not going to be less traditional or more liberal, of course ] :

[1] ” we have come together in the presence of God ”

That entity is missing from the list of “in the presence of ..” in the report on the http://www.toronto.anglican.ca website. But let’s be charitable and assume it to be merely an accidental oversight.

[2] ” Marriage is a gift of God and a means of his grace, in which man and woman become one flesh. ”

A man and another man cannot “become one flesh” in the sense of how those words were intended.

[3] ” The union of man and woman in heart, body, and mind is intended for their mutual comfort and help, that they may know each other with delight and tenderness in acts of love [and that they may be blessed in the procreation, care, and upbringing of children]. ”

The option of “[ .. procreation .. ]” is there because it was acknowledged that procreation was not a necessary post-condition for marriage, albeit marriage a necessary pre-condition for procreation. That man and woman were made for each other. It was not included to cover outright blasphemous violation and mockery of those precepts.

There is more, of course, including this

[4] ” If anyone present knows a reason why N and N may not lawfully marry, they must declare it now. ”

Was it a mere, ersatz in my view, concern for politeness and civility that there was not one person there to state, politely and civilly, of course, but loud enough to be heard, that it was not lawful according to the still-extant Marriage Canon ?

When is the mass book-burning of all BASs and BCPs scheduled ?

  4. Very amusing. A very droll scene. Don’t really know why Bish Susy didn’t join them in the marriage vows – imagine the sensation that would have created! Free at last!

  5. Spiritual agreement to the Scripture text (plus others) shared is offered by End of Days Pastor Jack Van Impe in his December 29, 2018, sermon (also, January 5, 2019), setting out the four Biblical signs that ours is the generation who will witness visibly His Prophesied and Promised Return of our LORD Jesus Christ; consequential of such “a falling away first” ( + II Thessalonians 2) within The Church – the false Church/es – followed by “iniquity shall abound” (+ Matthew ch. 24. + our LORD’s End of Days Prophecy).
The other Scripture text offering spiritual agreement is found in the daily Bible readings drawn up by The Reverend Robert Murray M’Cheyne, St. Peter’s, Dundee, who would have “Come out from among them” at the Church of Scotland 1843 Disruption (v. sermon ‘Lot’s Wife’ + Genesis 19:26) (the late Rev’d Dr. John Stott’s daily personal readings): for December 29, + Malachi 2 “For the Priest’s lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek The Law at his mouth: for he is the messenger of The LORD of Hosts. But ye are departed out of the way; ye have caused many to stumble at The Law…”; the text continues with The LORD as “witness, between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou has dealt treacherously…”. If this be Divine suit vs.the violation of the Biblical definition of marriage (+ Genesis 1,2; + Matthew 19), what is going to be the impending Judgment of The LORD against everyone, Priest or otherwise, who “say, every one that doeth evil is good in the sight of The LORD” (v.17)?
    The question is not rhetorical.

    • Another daily Bible devotional/study is at http://www.BibleDiscoveryTV.com, also aired daily on ‘Vision’ tv; offered by a family of Husband & Wife/Father & Mother, Daughter, and two Sons:
      now including archaeological/historical teaching;
‘mysteries’ teaching; and the main Lesson and application; with daily prayer intercessions. What an anointed example of true Christian faith and godly living this program offers, all in JESUS/Yeshua’s Holy Name.
May The LORD continue to Bless their faithful witness to Him.

  6. To say “the inmates are running the asylum” would be a gross understatement. Clearly the corrupt have taken over, and have absolutely no regard for the rules as they might pertain to themselves. But once they change the rules to suit their fallen and sin-filled ways they will insist upon strict and absolute adherence.
To any and all genuine Christians we must convey the message that for the sake of your soul you should stay as far away as possible from these agents of evil.

  7. You may be interested in reading the comments on Facebook, in the post by the diocese that announced the ‘nuptials’ of Kevin and Mohan. Compare the number of comments that are congratulatory to those that are dismissive. And if you dig into the replies, I found it interesting to see that one person was upset that someone used the word disgraceful. There’s no search for truth, but only a demand that phraseology be gracious…

  8. This is just another clear indication that the ACoC under the leadership of apostates such as the current primate has completely and totally abandoned the authority of Scripture and these apostates seem to believe that their purple shirts and white collars gives them the authority to do as they wish. I pray for their sincere repentance and return to the truth but they seem to be so full of themselves they have no room for God and the authority of Scripture.
