The Occupy story so far

Things are progressing as expected.

The St. Paul’s occupiers are using the cathedral as a toilet.

A Vancouver occupier has died, probably of a drug overdose.

As Peter Hitchens says, every crank, dingbat and fanatic in Southern England is now on the steps of St. Paul’s.

Rowan Williams continues to command the respect of the media:

  1. This poll indicates you must work harder. More posts! More posts!

Administrator note: Please make future comments approach within hailing distance of relevance to the original post and not merely a pointer to an article which has an opposing point of view.

Fascinating as I find such opinions, I don’t provide commenting space for individuals to run a surrogate blog. You can set up your own free blog on WordPress or blogger where you can wax eloquent on anything you wish including the ineffectiveness of Anglican Samizdat, my personal hygiene or the healing efficacy of lard when applied to your aunty Ada’s piles.

You just can’t do it here.

    • Okay, how about this . . .

It seems that the majority of Canadians are uncomfortable with the behaviour, interests and motivations of those who control the levers of big finance; or the degree of influence they exert over governments and politicians. They may not like the behaviour of many OWS participants, but understand that this behaviour should be judged separately from the issues on which the protest is focused. Your posts, on the other hand, generally present ad hominem arguments: “if protesters behave badly the issues they are protesting are not worth considering”. It’s kind of funny the first time, but after about the 20th post it gets boring. If you support the interests of big finance, just tell us.

As an aside, how can I respect a blogger who is willing to let someone like me continue to hang around? 8)

      • I see you are going for a number 6.

You shouldn’t count too much on my innate revulsion at the thought of having your respect preventing your banishment.

  2. Warren,
A very nice synopsis of what the Main Stream media says the protests are about. Just because the chattering classes would like it to be so, doesn’t make it so.
David’s approach of actually looking at what the protesters are saying and doing, makes a lot more sense to me. On the whole, they seem to be a gaggle of incoherent malcontents with a shopping list of unrelated grievances.

  3. I think Warren has a point, up there at 1.1. However, it seems to me that David has always meant this to be more of a humour blog than an issues blog.
