The leader of the free world doesn’t know how to use an iPod

A fact that he appears to be proud of. From here:

‘With iPods and iPads and Xboxes and PlayStations – none of which I know how to work – information becomes a distraction, a diversion, a form of entertainment, rather than a tool of empowerment, rather than the means of emancipation.’

He also laid into the Internet gossip sites for spreading rumour around the world, even if it was false.

‘With so many voices clamouring for attention on blogs, on cable, on talk radio, it can be difficult, at times, to sift through it all; to know what to believe, to figure out who’s telling the truth and who’s not,’ he said.

‘Let’s face it – even some of the craziest claims can quickly gain traction. I’ve had some experience of that myself.’

And one of those crazy claims is that Obama doesn’t know how to use – how can I put it – easy to use devices designed for techno-dummies. Let’s hope no-one has told him where the nuclear button is kept: he might mistake it for a coffee maker.

  1. Who me – not like leftist politics!?

I was poking fun more at an elitist trying to identify with the common man by pretending to be stupid. I think Bush did something similar, but I omitted commenting on it; not sure why… ahem.

  2. Why would you assume he was pretending? I know people of his age who don’t know how to work an ipod…. Not everyone is a technogeek, y’know.

Bush, on the other hand – I saw the video of him in the grocery store, fascinated by the scanners. I’m sure he wasn’t pretending…

  3. I am fascinated by the scanners, too: I want to take them apart to find out what kind of laser they have in them – although I suspect it’s an 850nm diode laser.

He was pretending; how can anyone not know how to work an iPod? You push a button that says “push me” – well, almost.

  4. My impression of Obama is that he is typical of leftist politicians. Tries to portray himself as in the middle and non-partisan, than expects everyone to just accept his word on this and also accept averything that he does. One small problem thouhg. Obama is anything but non-partisan. His policies are most certainly not in the political middle, but firmly in the extreme political left. Also typical of those on the political left, watch out if you get in his way. He will use whatever tactics he must in order to ram his agenda through. If anyone does not believe me on this, than just look at how he pushed through his health care reforms. One of the worst examples of political backroom dealings (I think it was Nevada that got the best “deal” in return for its Senators support) and bully tactics ever.

  5. Begging your pardon, I vote NDP, and I don’t appreciate being stereotyped like that. Not all Christians are right wing politically.

    • No offence intended. There is a difference between voting for the political left, and being an leftist politician. I will be the first to concede that the NDP have some good policies, and some bad ones also, just like all political parties. The point that I was making is that leftist politicians try to portray themselves in a way that is dishonest. Take for example the Canadian Liberals (who openly see themselves as Canada’s “natural governing party”), who try to convince us that if you oppose gun control than you are somehow not really Canadian.
