Crossroads Christian Communications targeted by homosexual lobbyists

Crossroads is in Uganda helping to “dig wells, build latrines and promote hygiene”. CIDA has given Crossroads $544,813 of taxpayer money to help with the effort – a rare case of the effective application of foreign aid.

Now, Crossroads is a Christian organisation – a real one – so it regards homosexual activity as sinful, making this donation of taxpayer dollars a paradigm of political incorrectness, a heinous atrocity of cosmic proportions.

Who cares that Crossroads is doing a good job and is actually helping Ugandans? No-one in the mainstream media, it seems because the horror of calling homosexuality a sin is a far bigger outrage than an African without clean drinking water. In the deranged little world of liberals, LGBT crusaders and mainline church sympathisers, this is known as social justice.

The time is coming when to be a Christian in the West will amount to being a pariah, persona non grata – as welcome as a leper in a kindergarten. Perhaps the time has already come: the question is, will our society – and Ugandans – be better or worse off for it?

From here:

An evangelical organization that describes homosexuality as a “perversion” and a “sin” is receiving funding from the Government of Canada for its work in Uganda, where gays and lesbians face severe threats.

The federal government has denounced virulent homophobia in that East African country and Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird has condemned plans for an anti-gay bill that could potentially include the death penalty for homosexuals.

Nevertheless, the federal government is providing $544,813 in funding for Crossroads Christian Communications — an Ontario-based evangelical group that produces television programming — to help dig wells, build latrines and promote hygiene awareness in Uganda through 2014.

Until Tuesday, the organization’s website carried a list of “sexual sins” deemed to be “perversion”: “Turning from the true and/or proper purpose of sexual intercourse; misusing or abusing it, such as in pedophilia, homosexuality and lesbianism, sadism, masochism, transvestism, and bestiality.”

Lower down the page, the group asks sinners to “repent.”

“God cares too much for you (and all of His children) to leave such tampering and spiritual abuse unpunished,” according to the group’s website.

Just hours after The Canadian Press contacted the group to ask a spokesperson about the site, the page in question disappeared from public view.

[….]

Steve Foster, president of the Quebec LGBT Council, said the federal government should stop funding groups like Crossroads.

For those interested in the Crossroads page that vanished, here it is, unexpurgated, complete with the indescribable abomination of Bible references:

Sexual Sins

Sexual Sins Include

Immorality – Moral behaviour that is contrary to God’s standards.
Perversion – Turning from the true and/or proper purpose of sexual intercourse; misusing or abusing it, such as in pedophilia, homosexuality and lesbianism, sadism, masochism, transvestism, and beastiality.
Adultery – Sexual activity with a person other than your spouse.
Fornication – Illicit sexual activity when you aren’t married.

Sexual sins are committed because of lust (1 John 2:16; Galatians 5:19-21). When you allow improper sexual drives to control you as a Christian, an inner tension will result in your mind, emotions and will. You will want to be spiritual, but find yourself being a slave to sensuality. The result is what the Bible calls double-mindedness (James 1:8), which leads to a reprobate mind (Romans 1:28).

  1. This is nothing new when this topic is brought up.

    We now have political correctness

Homosexuality was once considered as a mental illness but is no longer

It was once considered as a criminal offence but is no longer

    These definitions have changed

Sin means missing the mark like when an archer is trying to hit the bull’s eye.

This all involves God’s will and plans for our lives under the authority of Holy Scripture.

The Holy Spirit proceeding from Jehovah the Father speaks to us through the Word of God.

    God is the Judge

We are to Love the Lord thy God with all our heart, mind and strength and Love thy neighbour as thyself

  2. Uganda is 41% Catholic, do they care what the mouthpiece of a organization purporting to represent less than 5% of Canadians thinks?

Their hurt feelings are more important than clean water.

  3. The crowd is having a field day with this news item in the comments section at the NP, with 700 mostly anti-funding comments. Correction. That was five minutes ago. Now it has 710. It will likely be 1,000 by tomorrow.

THe CBC has now reported that Julian Fantino, the Minister responsible for the CIDA, has ordered funding to Crossroads cut off pending an investigation. Its newsite has 590 comments so far on Sunday evening, mostly against funding such “homophobic” and “anti-gay religious group(s)”. Correction. 606 comments five minutes later.

I wonder if Crossroads committed itself to these projects before Uganda proposed the legislation. Also, I understand the Ugandan bill is proposed legislation, not yet law. Will it ever even become law?

    • Does the Canadian government not fund projects of one kind or another that support or promote other religions and their practitioners, that are actively hostile to homosexuality rather than merely disapproving? Where is the outcry of the gblt and its faithful courtesans in that instance?

  4. Some of you might not know what a friend to ANiC Crossroads is. When ANiC was scrambling to set-up a national administration, Crossroads opened up their facilities and welcomed us in. When St Georges lost access to their worship space, Crossroads created an Anglican friendly space that we are still using.
Crossroads walks the walk. That is why they are so dangerous to the Left.

  5. I believe the point is this attack, to which Crossroads has already started to fold, by removing the clear and Biblically correct posting, and to which the Federal government is starting to fold, and will in all likelyhood fold completely and withdraw funding from this and other outreaches, to appease the media, and the interest groups involved, of course for no other pupose than to secure their re-election to their profitable sinecures, and positions of status.
I too believe we are well along the way in western society and poilitic to the time when Biblically steadfast Christians and their churches, will be persecuted to the point of being legislated illegal.
It is a very small jump from banning funding to Christian outreaches, to having tax exempt status removed for believing in and being true to Biblical Truth, and eventually having the Bible declared “hate” literature for it’s declaration of Truth.
What elected official will stand up and speak out to these attacks? None. For they have not the courage to defend Truth, but only the fear of persecution themselves, and of course the loss of their positions of power and income.
I pray that Julian Fantino, a former Chief of Police, and the O.P.P., and a Roman Catholic, will demonstrate his courage and faith by rejecting the screams of persecution from the media, and the lost left.
We always pray for the persecuted church in foriegn lands, but this Sunday we will pray for the persecuted Church in Canada and the western world, and for protection from the attacks of the evil one, from within and without, and we will stand up for the Word of God, and for our Lord Jesus Christ. We pray we will never give up, and we will never give in, in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen

    • I think it’s time to mount a counteroffensive, Terry. Why aren’t the gblt being called out as disease-promoters, elitists, and racists? Perhaps even with a hidden agenda to advance one religion over another in Africa? Where are the doctors and the medical community, the Canadian diplomats and emissaries to speak to the importance to health of what Crossroads is doing? Why doesn’t Crossroads issue the challenge for members of the gblt ‘community’ to come to replace their members doing this hard, physical work in the field? Have people been so thoroughly brainwashed so quickly?

      • Instead of posting here, I suggest you post on the National Post comments section relating to the news article, and see how every word of your posts will be well dissected and countered, in detail, and repeatedly. Then maybe come back here and discuss the means, strategy and tactics of a counteroffensive after you have spent hours, or days, defending your position and beliefs, and having everything you say expertly rebutted and attacked. I am not saying those who do that are right. I am saying they are very good at it. Simply put, mounting a “counteroffensive” is more easily said than done, and may not be what Christians are called upon to do anyway.

I am not posting on the NP, but I do read it. The NP, by the way, is one of the more conservative of the mass media.

        • Obviously no leadership is to come from the chattering wasteland of ‘experts’ devoid of common sense you describe.

You think Christianity and humane society who are facing possible extinction are not called upon to fight?

          • No, I think they are, but I repeat what I posted earlier, which is below:

“So how do Christians fight, and how do Christians win? And what are they trying to win?”

I suggested that if you are of a mind to fight, you start with posting in the comments section of a widely read news publication such as the National Post, and see how well you fare in that fight. I suggested the NP as you do not need a subscription to post there.

Posting on this friendly forum involves no risk. An alternate forum hosts the very people you would need to fight against. If not there, where? If not that, what? If you cannot hold your own there, then what are you prepared to do specifically that can make a significant impact as a fighter? Not others you are exhorting to “fight”. YOU.

      • I believe it is a matter of fear now. For to stand up, and speak out with common sense, even when given in love, is to be targeted for a barrage of trouble and persecution from the formidable forces of media , politically correct bureaucrats, elected officials, (in the highest office), the interest groups, friends and family, and even fellow Christians. My voice is small, and my audience likewise, and I confess even this humble man is afraid of speaking up, of trying to say or do something to help people see the truth of the moral decay and destruction that this turning your back on nature, and on God and His Word, is bringing about.
However, I will speak, when and where I can, vote the best way I can, and pray for the lost souls, praying unceasingly to our Lord, who is in control, and is orchestrating the events and the signs, to fulfill His will and His purpose, knowing I have the assurance that His children will not be harmed.

  6. If Muslim governments are funding such projects by Muslim missionaries, you can be sure that those missionaries will be at least encouraged, if not outright mandated, by those governments to convert as many people as possible to Islam at the same time. I would expect that they would be rather successful too, given that they would be digging wells and engaging in other public health projects openly as Muslims. Meanwhile, the Christians are hamstrung.

Unless the secular organizations doing such work are trying to convert the people to a secular worldview (good luck with that), the spiritual void will be filled with something other than Christianity, and I doubt that something will have much respect for Christianity or for the western secular democracies in general.

  7. I think the federal government probably has no choice but to back peddle on much of its financial support of “faith based charities” whose positions on anything could be judged, depending on ones point of view, controversial, because of the whole Kairos fiasco. And the Kairos thing may have easily been avoided if Bev Oda had not lied about who it was who scribbled that word “not.”

Another complicating factor is that Uganda has some of the strongest anti-homosexual legislation of any nation in the world and has since colonial times. It was only due to extreme foreign pressure that the death penalty was removed for repeat offenders of “homosexual crimes.”

Traditional, orthodox, more conservative Christians etc should shut up about this one. It will be extremely humiliating for us if we don’t, especially when stories start coming out about what has happened to many homosexuals in that country at the hands of the state, which will surely happen now.

    • What you say is interesting, SK. But forget the past for a moment, and let me ask you, does shutting up appeal to what you think is right, or does it give too much weight to political expediency and appearances? Aren’t Christians more interested in truth? What is humiliation, especially when fools comprise the audience for said humiliation, for those who are followers of a crucified Christ?

Christians also know how to fight. And, moreover, how to win. They, and their detractors, just need reminding.

      • I have trouble forgetting about the past. It contains the vast majority of stuff that has happened thus far to me.

However, you are not alone in suggesting that I “get out of the past.” The pro-sodomy crowd and the bishop groupies in my own denomination throw that one at me all the time… “Stop dwelling on the past; try to forgive and forget…” is their now nauseating mantra to me as they tell me about books written by women (for some reason, the gender of who writes these book is very important to them) who were able to climb that spiritual Mount Everest and forgive some creep who murdered their son or whatever.

Let us try to not fall into the sin of self-righteousness over this one. The devil has his servants hiding among us too.

        • I think you have to go back to the WW2 generation to see examples of people who knew who they were and what they were about. And beyond that, probably to the Gates of Vienna.

          • These historical references are, with respect, platitudes. I suggest you too have to let go of the past. The fight is now. It is different. It is here. What specific, significant. concrete things are YOU prepared to do, NOW?

          • I suppose we could throw out Christianity itself as a platitude. Problem solved, eh? Maybe trying to counteract the defeatism and hand-wringing in the comments here is the specific concrete thing I’m doing today to try turn the tide, at least as regards what contact I have with you, Anonymuse. Meanwhile, be my guest and continue to read, but not comment, at the all-important National Post.

          • I think I have an understanding of what you are saying,Lisa,
and hoping for. Your thoughts have taken me back to a sermon, I will never forgot, by our Pastor on Oct.16th, 2011.
            “God hates injustice.”
We were challenged , after considering ,very carefully, the consequences of asking for this, to pray:
Lord, Break my heart with the things that break your heart.
So, I see this injustice we speak of, and so many others in the world and, my heart is broken.
Is it enough to spur me to action? What action does the Lord want me to take? What action am I capable of taking?
My default is to love, and to pray, and to seek the kingdom of God.
May it be the action that pleases Him.

  8. No, I am not posting on that forum of the NP at this time. But I am not encouraging a fight Lisa. You are. That is the reason I wanted your specific intentions about what you were going to do, and why I suggested you post on the NP.

I am not seeing much defeatism here, nor much hand-ringing, but in any event this is not yet a widely read enough forum to be of much impact in society generally.

What I see you as doing is avoiding the point I have put to you. What you do on this little forum is of little or no consequence. I am suggesting you get out of the boat, and you face the storm. Otherwise your words here are nothing more than the equivalent of a goldfish flipping its tail in an isolated pond while it exhorts other fish to fight monsters in the vast, dark ocean.
