Diocese of Niagara: gospels not historical

It would appear that for the last 2000 years the gospels have suffered from the misunderstanding that they actually happened. Now at last, thanks to Spong, Borg et al – and a diocesan vision of distributive justice – the truth has come to light: Jesus’ teachings are mystical proclamations of faith completely uncontaminated by historical reality.

From the Niagara Anglican (page 11):

Jesus and his teachings have finally come back to light after being buried under layers of misinterpretation of the gospels as historical fact, rather than as “proclamations of faith” as their Jewish writers intended.

  1. Well, I took the time to actually read the article. My impression is basically this. It is nothing more than a load of left-wing socialist’s wishy-washy dribble that attempts to pervert the Holy Word of God into a some sort of communist manifesto. Instead of being open to what God is saying and then embracing the changes that God is asking this woman is instead accepting the new age anti west, anti capitalist, anti historic Church and is attempting to change God into something that she wants Him to be.

Frankly I am fed up and sick of these people who would change God’s Holy Church into an ecofacist feminazi sexually perverted alphabet abomination that tries to use God as a justification for their own devices and desires.

  2. I don’t see the article, which one is it? I did notice an ad for the Anglican Communion Alliance’s monthly meeting, though. What an exercise in futility that is!

  3. I would like to ask her – if the gospels are not historical fact, why should we pay any mort attention to Jesus than we do to a main character in a novel?

    • Hello Kate,

Hope all is well with you.

You raise a good point. If in fact these books are not Holy Gospels, but are instead only gospels, than why should we pay them any attention at all? This is a fundamental part of the enemies’ attack upon God’s Holy Church. Convince the weak-minded Christians that the Holy Books are nothing special, and these people will no longer regards them as an important and necessary source of learning. Sad to say that the enemies are experiencing success with this strategy. I was dumbfounded a few weeks ago when I sat through a sermon (oops, they are now called “homilies”) in which the Priest actually said that the Holy Bible is not from God, but is instead the writings of mere men who were trying to understand the relationship between God and people.

We desperately need a new re-formation of the Church. I am wondering if the Roman Catholics with this new Pope are starting it themselves. Although the news media are outright pathetic when it comes to reporting anything religious, I am having the impression that this new Pope is a “back to basics” kind of guy. He has already told the Cardinals to get back to concentrating on the Gospels. Perhaps we should follow his lead.

  4. Just the excuses that unbelievers tell each other to justify basing their lives really on whatever is current in the world in the time and place they happen to live in.

Which, when you consider it, is pretty irrational.

And, since they are paid to hold a different view, rather dishonest.
