Bishop of Toronto declares that the Holy Spirit is male

Here is the homosexual bishop of Toronto, Kevin Robertson, clearly exhibiting a spasm of unrepentant patriarchy by holding up an offensive sign in the Toronto Pride Parade.

This is a slippery slope: if, today, a bishop can get away with saying the Holy Spirit is male, before long he’ll be calling God “Father”.

Where is the outrage from our feminist clergy? Has anyone reported this as a hate crime?

  1. Clearly this pretend bishop hasn’t a flipp’n clue about the Doctrine of the Holy Trinity. He very much needs to read the Creed of Saint Athanasius.

  2. Let us pray that he carried that sign only “pour epater la bourgeoisie”and that he didn’t really mean it. (No sentient human being could credit such a statement.)

  3. Another modern confused about the distinction between sex and gender. The idea that God is sexed is unsound. We are not supposed for instance to ask where Mother is in the Parable of the Prodigal Son. See everyone up to and including yours truly in my sermon on the first clause of the Nicene Creed in this volume: https://www.amazon.com/We-Believe-Understanding-Nicene-Creed/dp/1775106233/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1512952951&sr=1-2&keywords=we+believe+understanding

    • Dr Turner,
Regarding Mother in the Parable of the Prodigal Son you might be
interested in Henri Nouwen’s take on that. Referring to his seeing the
Rembrandt painting in the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg (which
I will visit in August, Deo volente), in addition to expounding on the
Elder Son, he sees the feminine in one of the Father’s hands and
extrapolates via that to God the Father and Mother. To me it is too
      much of a stretch.
On another matter, I have ordered that book of sermons from Amazon.

  4. It’s regrettable that when I edit and contribute to a book as in this case I get listed on Amazon as the sole author. The other preachers were:

Christopher Turner (1935-2013, BA, MA, PhD Cantab., MA, MPhil Oxon.) who was a Classicist, Byzantinist and Russianist. He was a member of the Anglican Diocese of New Westminster from 1971, and of Holy Trinity, Vancouver from 1986.

Karl Przywala (b. 1963, BA Dunelm., MA St. Mark’s National Theological Centre) who is an ordained Anglican clergyman, and has been Rector of Holy Trinity, Vancouver since 2014.

  5. Where do you see a reference to the Holy Spirit on that sign? Granted, I don’t expect much in the way of orthodoxy from this particular bishop but, on the assumption that one of the two dad’s referred to is Joseph, the other would be God the Father, not the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit was the Agent in Jesus’ miraculous conception but the Father is His Father, His Divine Sonship being His eternal generation of the Father.

    • Gary. I think that you are “nit picking” over David’s point when you should be pointing out that the Mr. Robertson has completely ignored the Virgin Mary who we all know is the mother of Jesus Christ. Mr. Robertson’s sign is a lie for it suggests that Jesus Christ was raised by a homosexual couple of two men, when the Holy Bible is very clear that Jesus Christ was raised within a Holy Matrimony of a man with one wife.

But why should anyone be surprised the Mr. Robertson has either forgot or deliberately ignores these Truths of our Faith. After all Mr. Robertson is clearly seen by his acts that he is not a real Christian.

      • I am glad to see you have not referred to Mr. Robertson as a bishop as from his actions and stated beliefs one can only conclude he has NEVER read or attempted to understand the Scripture. The only other alternative is that he has been converted to that detestable “god of political expediency”. As such he should be defrocked and dismissed as a clergy person.

  6. My first reaction on seeing that photo of the bishop with that sign was to think
that it must have been “photoshopped”, since, surely, no one could reach the
episcopate and demonstrate such an inane misunderstanding. But, probably,
no, and yes. I could wax with a clever combination of anger and eloquence, but
I will restrict myself to, as it were, carrying this sign :
A bishop in the Anglican Church of Canada carries a sign that
can only invite derision from those that exercise their critical
thinking abilities, and that institution is not turning out alright.

    • I contacted Mr. Robertson and he takes credit for this . I thought it might be photoshopped as well. In a return email he says he thought it was a joke.

    • By the same logic, every Christian has two “Dads”–an earthly Dad and a Heavenly Father. But this has nothing whatsoever to do with being “gay”.

  7. I believe the two “dads” he actually means are God and Joseph. Regardless, it’s still a gobsmackingly ridiculous and frivolous public statement from a putative “minister of the cloth”.
