{"id":9692,"date":"2010-08-29T17:12:20","date_gmt":"2010-08-29T21:12:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/?p=9692"},"modified":"2010-08-29T17:12:20","modified_gmt":"2010-08-29T21:12:20","slug":"how-not-to-sell-ice-cream-to-catholics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/how-not-to-sell-ice-cream-to-catholics\/","title":{"rendered":"How not to sell ice-cream to Catholics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-1307140\/Pregnant-nun-ice-cream-ad-faces-ban-Catholic-outcry.html?ITO=1490\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>:<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/i\/pix\/2010\/08\/29\/article-0-0AECFFD9000005DC-235_233x371.jpg\" alt=\"Add an Image\" width=\"166\" height=\"242\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Two ice cream adverts, one showing a pregnant nun and the other two male priests about to kiss, are facing a ban by the advertising watchdog after offending Roman Catholics.<\/p>\n<p>The provocative slogan \u2018immaculately conceived\u2019 appears on the image of the nun eating from a pot of Antonio Federici Gelato Italiano.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the picture of two men in cassocks and clerical collars, embracing with their lips inches apart, bears the words \u2018we believe in salivation\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The Advertising Standards Authority received complaints that the adverts, which have appeared in Grazia, Look and The Lady, are offensive to religious believers.<\/p>\n<p>It has indicated the image of the nun is likely to be banned and is still investigating the advert featuring the priests.<\/p>\n<p>British firm Antonio Federici said the adverts celebrated the \u2018implied forbidden Italian temptations\u2019 of the ice cream.<\/p>\n<p>Creative director Matt O\u2019Connor said the company would lose a substantial sum if it had to pull the campaign and was considering a legal challenge.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u2018Only a tiny proportion of those who have seen the ads have made complaints. They seem to be upholding the views of a bigoted minority over the majority.\u2019<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/i\/pix\/2010\/08\/29\/article-0-0AECFFF9000005DC-277_224x326.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Personally, I\u2019m all in favour of free speech and would like to see an ad featuring a woman in a burka eating ice-cream &#8211; how is it done?<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, the Catholic Church could put out its own ice-cream ad.
