{"id":9111,"date":"2010-06-23T17:51:54","date_gmt":"2010-06-23T21:51:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/?p=9111"},"modified":"2010-06-23T17:51:54","modified_gmt":"2010-06-23T21:51:54","slug":"2010-world-religions-summit-convocation-of-loons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/2010-world-religions-summit-convocation-of-loons\/","title":{"rendered":"2010 World Religions Summit: convocation of loons"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Religious leaders who have little better to do are meeting to pontificate on the <em>\u201cmoral, ethical and spiritual\u201d<\/em> crisis of our time: what used to be called \u2013 before it was largely debunked \u2013 \u201cGlobal Warming\u201d but now goes by the less easily pinned down \u201cClimate Change\u201d. One thing I <em>do<\/em> know: the climate is definitely changing in Oakville. This morning it was raining and this afternoon it is sunny.<\/p>\n<p>According to this gathering of spiritual Stasi, the time for persuasion, reason, education and even \u201cconversation\u201d is over: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anglicanjournal.com\/nc\/news-items\/article\/2010-world-religions-summit-9251.html\" target=\"_blank\">it\u2019s time for compulsion<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>World religious leaders today grappled with how best to compel governments and citizens to address the issue of climate change.<\/p>\n<p>During the second day of the 2010 World Religions Summit here, some urged their own institutions model the very behaviours they are demanding politicians adopt as policy. Others said their own faith traditions are already doing that. Some urged more education of faith communities while others said the situation is already \u201cbeyond education\u201d and requires intervention.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>United Church Moderator Mardi Tindal thinks that having a \u201cgreen\u201d church is an expression of what she believes in, leading one to conclude that the ultimate expression of her belief would be to bulldoze United Church buildings everywhere and plant trees in their place. Something to look forward to:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Tindal also spoke about the environmental initiatives undertaken by inter-faith communities in Canada, including the Greening Sacred Spaces program, which ensures that \u201cour buildings are responsible expressions of what we believe in.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Pandit Roopnauth has noticed an even bigger blight than un-green United Church buildings: humanity. He takes the dim view that we are parasites. He didn\u2019t elaborate on whether mankind should be exterminated to make way for more of Mardi Tindal\u2019s trees, but I suspect it was at the back of his mind:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Pandit Roopnauth Sharma of the Hindu Federation said people need to be reminded that \u201cwe are the biggest parasites on earth.
