{"id":8076,"date":"2010-04-10T19:04:26","date_gmt":"2010-04-10T23:04:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/anglicansamizdat.wordpress.com\/?p=8076"},"modified":"2010-04-10T19:04:26","modified_gmt":"2010-04-10T23:04:26","slug":"dawkins-wants-to-arrest-the-pope","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/dawkins-wants-to-arrest-the-pope\/","title":{"rendered":"Dawkins wants to arrest the Pope"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From <a href=\"http:\/\/www.timesonline.co.uk\/tol\/comment\/faith\/article7094310.ece\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>RICHARD DAWKINS, the atheist campaigner, is planning a legal ambush to have the Pope arrested during his state visit to Britain \u201cfor crimes against humanity\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens, the atheist author, have asked human rights lawyers to produce a case for charging Pope Benedict XVI over his alleged cover-up of sexual abuse in the Catholic church.<\/p>\n<p>The pair believe they can exploit the same legal principle used to arrest Augusto Pinochet, the late Chilean dictator, when he visited Britain in 1998.<\/p>\n<p>The Pope was embroiled in new controversy this weekend over a letter he signed arguing that the \u201cgood of the universal church\u201d should be considered against the defrocking of an American priest who committed sex offences against two boys. It was dated 1985, when he was in charge of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, which deals with sex abuse cases.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The letter in question is <a href=\"http:\/\/timescolumns.typepad.com\/gledhill\/2010\/04\/text-of-pope-letter-kiesle.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>, along with a rebuttal by the Vatican.<\/p>\n<p>The Roman Catholic Church is one of the few remaining bastions against rampant nihilistic secularism; the horrible scandal that has beset it now is not only sad because of the children who have suffered, but also because it undermines the good that the Catholic Church does.<\/p>\n<p>God is spring cleaning in the Catholic Church; it would be ironic if he used Dawkins and Hitchens as his broom.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From here: RICHARD DAWKINS, the atheist campaigner, is planning a legal ambush to have the Pope arrested during his state visit to Britain \u201cfor crimes against humanity\u201d.
