{"id":7978,"date":"2010-04-01T00:13:08","date_gmt":"2010-04-01T04:13:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/anglicansamizdat.wordpress.com\/?p=7978"},"modified":"2010-04-01T00:13:08","modified_gmt":"2010-04-01T04:13:08","slug":"another-goldfish-crime-ring-busted","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/another-goldfish-crime-ring-busted\/","title":{"rendered":"Another Goldfish crime ring busted"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In May 2008, the Goldfish Division of the Margate City Council infiltrated an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thanet.gov.uk\/news\/latest_press_releases\/goldfish_sting.aspx\">illegal goldfish running ring<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A licensing sting, involving a goldfish, has led to a Margate man being disqualified from keeping a pet shop for three years.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/i\/pix\/2010\/04\/01\/article-1262708-08F194DE000005DC-522_468x714.jpg\" alt=\"Add an Image\" width=\"233\" height=\"356\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On 22 May 2008, a Licensing Officer again visited the premises and found budgies, cockatiels, gerbils, rabbits and fish on display inside the shop. She told Mr. Curtis that she wanted to buy a goldfish and, after some discussion, was sold one for \u00a33.50. She also enquired about the price of rabbits and was told \u00a315. She left the shop with the goldfish.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In 2010 the distributing of goldfish for other than recreational use has become so serious that city councils are employing schoolboys in sting operations to entrap goldfish peddling grandmas <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-1262708\/Goldfish-seller-Joan-Higgins-gets-used-life-tagged-criminal.html?ITO=1490\">posing as pet shop owners<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>But this electronic tag has been fitted on a great grandmother who was hauled before the courts for selling a goldfish to a boy of 14.<\/p>\n<p>Pet shop owner, Joan Higgins, 66, was fined \u00a31,000, put under curfew and warned she could face a year in prison.<\/p>\n<p>She was caught in an undercover sting when the local council sent a schoolboy into her shop to buy a \u00a31.50 goldfish.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/i\/pix\/2010\/04\/01\/article-1262708-08F194DE000005DC-522_468x714.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In May 2008, the Goldfish Division of the Margate City Council infiltrated an illegal goldfish running ring: A licensing sting, involving a goldfish, has led to a Margate man being disqualified from keeping a pet shop for three years.
