{"id":7486,"date":"2010-02-15T15:31:35","date_gmt":"2010-02-15T20:31:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/anglicansamizdat.wordpress.com\/?p=7486"},"modified":"2010-02-15T15:31:35","modified_gmt":"2010-02-15T20:31:35","slug":"the-church-of-england-votes-to-give-homosexual-clergy-hookups-full-benefits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/the-church-of-england-votes-to-give-homosexual-clergy-hookups-full-benefits\/","title":{"rendered":"The Church of England votes to give homosexual clergy hookups full benefits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At its recent synod, the Church of England voted to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.christian.org.uk\/news\/c-of-e-extends-pension-benefits-of-civil-partners\/\" target=\"_blank\">extend pension benefits<\/a> to clergy in homosexual civil \u201cpartnerships\u201d:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Prior to the vote, surviving civil partners of deceased gay clergy could claim pension benefits, but only back to 2005 when the Civil Partnership Act was introduced.<\/p>\n<p>But now the Synod has voted to extend their pension benefits by offering surviving civil partners a pension based on all of their deceased partner\u2019s pensionable service, equating them with widows and widowers.<\/p>\n<p>The change means the Church of England will go beyond the requirements of the Civil Partnership Act 2004.<\/p>\n<p><strong>One Synod member, who asked to remain anonymous, said conservative Synod members had deliberately withheld from taking to the floor to speak against the motion for fear of reprisals.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cThey didn\u2019t dare to. There would have been screams of homophobia if anyone had dared oppose it,\u201d he said.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It\u2019s good to know that the CofE is an inclusive church where all are free to speak their mind \u2013 as long as they maintain the harmony of the zeitgeist.<\/p>\n<p>The Times, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.timesonline.co.uk\/tol\/comment\/faith\/article7024390.ece\" target=\"_blank\">notes<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Church allows gay clergy to register their civil partnerships, but requests that they remain celibate.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Nudge nudge.<\/p>\n<p>How many homosexual clergy are there in the CofE?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In the London and Southwark dioceses, up to one in five clergy is thought to be gay, according to Canon Giles Goddard, co-founder of the lobby group Inclusive Church.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/uk\/2005\/dec\/11\/gayrights.immigrationpolicy\" target=\"_blank\">Britain as a whole<\/a>, the percentage of homosexuals is just 6%:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Six per cent of the population, or about 3.6 million Britons, are either gay or lesbian, the government&#8217;s first attempt to quantify the homosexual population has concluded.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So in the dioceses of London and Southwark, 20% of priests are homosexual, whereas in the general population, 6% are homosexual.<\/p>\n<p>Why are there so many homosexuals in the leadership of the Anglican Church? Is it a deliberate recruitment drive by the church; are the robes particularly alluring; is it the funny hats?<\/p>\n<p>Or is it a plot to subvert the only denomination that consistently preaches the true Gospel? No, that can\u2019t be it.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps it&#8217;s the judgement of God as described in Romans: <em>Since they thought it foolish to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their foolish thinking and let them do things that should never be done. Rom 1:28<\/em>.
