{"id":7261,"date":"2010-01-29T10:46:36","date_gmt":"2010-01-29T15:46:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/anglicansamizdat.wordpress.com\/?p=7261"},"modified":"2010-01-29T10:46:36","modified_gmt":"2010-01-29T15:46:36","slug":"rowan-williams-and-the-r-word","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/rowan-williams-and-the-r-word\/","title":{"rendered":"Rowan Williams and the \u201cR\u201d word"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.timesonline.co.uk\/tol\/comment\/faith\/article7007176.ece\" target=\"_blank\">Times<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The whole world, and not just Britain, is broken, with continents such as Africa feeling forgotten and uncared for, the Archbishop of Canterbury said in the heart of New York\u2019s financial district yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Any money men who might have happened in to Trinity Wall Street to shelter from the snow would have found a different sort of chill as Dr Rowan Williams delivered his lesson.<\/p>\n<p>Standing at the lectern of the famously wealthy US Episcopal church, which lies at the head of Wall Street, the leader of the Anglican Communion condemned the \u201cstraw man\u201d of self-interest.<\/p>\n<p>His theme was that financiers, wordsmiths \u2014 in fact anyone in the Western world connected in any way with economic reality \u2014 should <strong>look at themselves in the mirror and repent<\/strong>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It is hard to argue with Rowan\u2019s assessment of Western money moguls whose modus operandi is grounded in avarice, self-interest and utilitarianism.
