{"id":710,"date":"2008-10-15T23:09:59","date_gmt":"2008-10-16T03:09:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/anglicansamizdat.wordpress.com\/?p=710"},"modified":"2008-10-15T23:09:59","modified_gmt":"2008-10-16T03:09:59","slug":"the-new-anglislam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/the-new-anglislam\/","title":{"rendered":"The new Anglislam"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Archbishop of Canterbury says theological differences separate Islam from Christianity. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.timesonline.co.uk\/tol\/comment\/faith\/article4935536.ece\" target=\"_blank\">Here<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, admitted yesterday that the Christian and Muslim faiths are so fundamentally different that both sides are still unable to understand each other properly.<br \/>\nDr Williams, speaking at an interfaith conference in Cambridge, said that it was possible for Islam and Christianity, two of the three Abrahamic faiths, to agree around the imperatives to love God and &#8220;love your neighbour&#8221;. Muslims and Christians agree about the need to alleviate both poverty and suffering, he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Is anyone particularly surprised that \u2018theological differences separate Islam from Christianity\u2019? Rowan Williams <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/seattletimes.nwsource.com\/ABPub\/2007\/06\/14\/2003748208.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"167\" \/>appears to be struggling to find similarities \u2013 a requirement of the new style of Politically Correct Evangelism, I expect. Pretty soon he will probably be declaring that Anglicanism and Islam are essentially equivalent. That, of course, is because an Anglican can believe just about anything he likes \u2013 except that Jesus is the Son of God, rose physically from the dead and was born of a virgin: believing that make you a fundamentalist.<\/p>\n<p>The process has already started: Rev. Dr. Ann Holmes Redding, an Episcopal priest, converted to Islam over a year ago &#8211; while remaining an Episcopal priest &#8211; and apparently sees no conflict between the two belief systems.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Archbishop of Canterbury says theological differences separate Islam from Christianity.
