{"id":6090,"date":"2009-10-25T22:40:34","date_gmt":"2009-10-26T02:40:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/anglicansamizdat.wordpress.com\/?p=6090"},"modified":"2009-10-25T22:40:34","modified_gmt":"2009-10-26T02:40:34","slug":"a-church-does-euthanasia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/a-church-does-euthanasia\/","title":{"rendered":"A church does euthanasia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/vancouver.unitarians.ca\/cms\/site\/cache\/offonce\/pid\/1\" target=\"_blank\">Unitarian Church of Vancouver<\/a> proudly proclaims that it is <em>a community of diverse beliefs and shared values. <\/em>I\u2019m not sure exactly what this means, although I toyed with: <em>we all believe something different and all beliefs are of the same value even when they contradict each other; thus they are <\/em><em> all <\/em><em>rendered equal but meaningless &#8211; relatively speaking; <\/em>or <em>We value the fact that everyone in our church believes something different because\u2026. well, we\u2019re daft <\/em>or <em>Our shared value is that we don\u2019t care that no-one believes the same thing; we are a church with no duplicate beliefs!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em> <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Whatever the real meaning, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalpost.com\/news\/story.html?id=2143555\" target=\"_blank\">a value that is not shared<\/a> is the sanctity of human life:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A Vancouver church is stepping in to host a workshop by an Australian right-to-die doctor after the city&#8217;s public library cancelled the event over legal concerns.<\/p>\n<p>Rev. Steven Epperson of the Unitarian Church of Vancouver said he believes Dr. Philip Nitschke, director of the pro-euthanasia group Exit International, has the right to free speech, even if he&#8217;s telling people how to kill themselves.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Unitarian Church of Vancouver proudly proclaims that it is a community of diverse beliefs and shared values.
