{"id":6020,"date":"2009-10-20T16:35:00","date_gmt":"2009-10-20T20:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/anglicansamizdat.wordpress.com\/?p=6020"},"modified":"2009-10-20T16:35:00","modified_gmt":"2009-10-20T20:35:00","slug":"the-episcopal-church-has-a-promotion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/the-episcopal-church-has-a-promotion\/","title":{"rendered":"The Episcopal Church has a promotion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TEC has issued a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.virtueonline.org\/portal\/modules\/news\/article.php?storyid=11383\" target=\"_blank\">characteristically vague statement<\/a> in response to the Vatican\u2019s recent overtures to disaffected Anglicans.<\/p>\n<p>The last sentence struck me as particularly revealing since it unwittingly portrays the  confusion of TEC&#8217;s view of its mission:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Episcopal Church is a member of the worldwide Anglican Communion, and works together with other Provinces and with our ecumenical and interfaith partners to <strong>promote God&#8217;s reign on earth<\/strong>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>God <em>does <\/em>reign on earth, with or without <em>promotion<\/em> from TEC. What Jesus asks of TEC is in the Great Commission:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cAll authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>TEC is too busy promoting its own  reign on earth to bother with this.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TEC has issued a characteristically vague statement in response to the Vatican\u2019s recent overtures to disaffected Anglicans.
