{"id":5829,"date":"2009-09-28T17:12:20","date_gmt":"2009-09-28T21:12:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/anglicansamizdat.wordpress.com\/?p=5829"},"modified":"2009-09-28T17:12:20","modified_gmt":"2009-09-28T21:12:20","slug":"insulting-for-jesus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/insulting-for-jesus\/","title":{"rendered":"Insulting for Jesus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Christian couple who own a hotel have been charged with a criminal \u2013 yes <em>criminal \u2013 <\/em>offence for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/newstopics\/religion\/6211604\/Christian-couple-face-losing-hotel-after-criminal-charges-for-offending-Muslim-woman.html\" target=\"_blank\">insulting a guest<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Ben and Sharon Vogelenzang are awaiting trial accused of breaching public order by insulting a guest at their hotel in Aintree, Liverpool, about her religion.<\/p>\n<p>The couple, who are members of an evangelical congregation, were arrested by police after getting into a discussion with the woman about the differences between Christianity and Islam earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Vogelenzang, 54, is understood to have described Muslim dress as putting women into \u201cbondage\u201d while her husband, 53, allegedly described the Prophet Mohammed as a \u201cwarlord\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The Christian Institute, which is finding the Vogelenzangs\u2019 defence, said that the case showed that Christians are suffering growing \u201cpersecution\u201d by officials who use the law to prevent them speaking about their faith.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I left Britain 35 years ago, but as far as I remember, insulting guests was an accepted way of life in British hotels.
