{"id":5687,"date":"2009-09-15T15:27:19","date_gmt":"2009-09-15T19:27:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/anglicansamizdat.wordpress.com\/?p=5687"},"modified":"2009-09-15T15:27:19","modified_gmt":"2009-09-15T19:27:19","slug":"the-diocese-of-bc-in-a-death-spiral","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/the-diocese-of-bc-in-a-death-spiral\/","title":{"rendered":"The Diocese of BC in a death spiral"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Diocese of BC published some <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bc.anglican.ca\/content\/DPSeptember2009WEB.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">interesting numbers<\/a> recently:<strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Out of a total of 55 parishes:<\/strong><br \/>\n25 are in decline<br \/>\n15 are in growth<br \/>\n3 joined ANiC<br \/>\n2 are flat<br \/>\n9 are unknown<br \/>\n1 was recently closed<\/p>\n<p>40 parishes ran a deficit and 6 a surplus (the rest are ANiC, closed or unknown)<\/p>\n<p><strong>In 2008, there were:<\/strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bc.anglican.ca\/images\/BishopJamesCowan.jpg\" alt=\"Add an Image\" width=\"270\" height=\"257\" \/><br \/>\nBaptisms: 123 or \u00a02.6 per church<br \/>\nMarriages: 78 or 1.6 per church<br \/>\nFunerals: 342 or 7.2 per church<br \/>\nChildren and Youth: 652 or 13.8 per church<\/p>\n<p>Total Average Sunday Attendance in 2008 was 3,856. 82 or per church (47 parishes)<br \/>\nTotal Average Sunday Attendance in 2007 was 4,955. 95 or per church (52 parishes)<br \/>\nTotal Average Sunday Attendance in 2001 was 6544. 107 or per church (61 parishes)<\/p>\n<p>If this were a business rather than an old-boys club, the CEO would have been fired \u2013 admittedly with an obscene bonus \u2013 his henchmen replaced and the corridors of power swept clean. As it is James Cowan is still firmly at the helm steaming full speed ahead into the waters of further inclusion and diversity.
