{"id":5221,"date":"2009-08-14T10:27:58","date_gmt":"2009-08-14T14:27:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/anglicansamizdat.wordpress.com\/?p=5221"},"modified":"2009-08-14T10:27:58","modified_gmt":"2009-08-14T14:27:58","slug":"rowans-hell","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/rowans-hell\/","title":{"rendered":"Rowan\u2019s hell"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of Jean-Paul Sartre\u2019s bon mots was <em>Hell is other people (No Exit)<\/em>; Rowan Williams <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/newstopics\/religion\/6021637\/Archbishop-of-Canterbury-Hell-is-being-alone-for-ever.html\" target=\"_blank\">takes the opposite view<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Archbishop of Canterbury has described hell as being stuck by himself for ever.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Rowan Williams said that although his vision was not that of the traditional inferno, being alone with his \u201cselfish little ego\u201d for all eternity would be torment enough.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This view fits well with one biblical metaphor for hell: being <em>cast into outer darkness (Matt 22:13).<\/em><\/p>\n<p>According to C. S.
