{"id":4918,"date":"2009-07-13T20:47:59","date_gmt":"2009-07-14T00:47:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/anglicansamizdat.wordpress.com\/?p=4918"},"modified":"2009-07-13T20:47:59","modified_gmt":"2009-07-14T00:47:59","slug":"what-the-anglican-church-needs-is-more-bishops","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/what-the-anglican-church-needs-is-more-bishops\/","title":{"rendered":"What the Anglican church needs is more bishops"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/newstopics\/religion\/5811994\/Church-of-England-needs-more-bishops-not-fewer-General-Synod-hears.html\" target=\"_blank\">Bishops galore<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Church of England needs more bishops not fewer, its governing body heard.<\/p>\n<p>Despite dwindling congregations, worsening finances and a fall in the number of vicars, speakers told the gathering of the General Synod in York that radical plans to cut senior clergy posts were misguided.<\/p>\n<p>They argued that bishops have far more work to do than in years gone by, and that greater expectations are placed upon them.<\/p>\n<p>Prof Glynn Harrison, from Bristol diocese, said: &#8220;There may indeed be a case for increasing rather than decreasing senior oversight appointments.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He said he did not know how diocesan bishops tolerate the growing weight of expectations placed upon them.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This all makes sense: as people \u201cflee from the midst of Babylon\u201d or the CofE, more bishops are needed \u2013 to control the traffic congestion created by of the departing hordes, presumably.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">\n<p>In the Western Anglican Church, as the number of members approaches zero, the number of bishops will approach infinity.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bishops galore: The Church of England needs more bishops not fewer, its governing body heard.
