{"id":4693,"date":"2009-06-20T14:26:41","date_gmt":"2009-06-20T18:26:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/anglicansamizdat.wordpress.com\/?p=4693"},"modified":"2009-06-20T14:26:41","modified_gmt":"2009-06-20T18:26:41","slug":"bribed-to-attend-gay-pride-parade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/bribed-to-attend-gay-pride-parade\/","title":{"rendered":"Bribed to attend gay pride parade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Apparently the NHS in the UK can\u2019t afford to pay ambulance drivers overtime when they are on duty, but in an effort to keep up appearances, \u00a0can afford to pay them to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-1194277\/Paramedics-paid-extra-gay-pride-march--regardless-sexuality.html\" target=\"_blank\">attend a gay pride parade<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Ambulance staff are being offered overtime to take part in a gay march &#8211; regardless of their sexuality.<\/p>\n<p>Dozens of paramedics, the majority of whom are heterosexual, are being encouraged to walk along Brighton&#8217;s seafront in their uniform at this year&#8217;s Pride festival.<\/p>\n<p>They will be provided with refreshments and driven to and from the resort, all adding to the bill for the taxpayer.<\/p>\n<p>A paramedic who contacted the Daily Mail said South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Trust had decided to pay its workers \u00a340 each to take part in their own time because it was feared that not enough would volunteer for the event.<\/p>\n<p>The money is the equivalent of two hours&#8217; overtime pay, although paramedics say the trust has recently stopped paying overtime while they are actually on duty, blaming financial pressure.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Companies in Canada are vying to outdo each other in politically correct gaiety; IBM, once a bastion of blue suited conservativeness, sponsors a float in the Toronto gay pride parade and is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theinterim.com\/2002\/oct\/13acorporate.html\" target=\"_blank\">proud of its <em>diversity<\/em><\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>IBM Canada Ltd. was reported by the Globe and Mail newspaper to have a gay, lesbian, bisexual and &#8220;transgendered&#8221; group, and to have entered a contingent in Toronto&#8217;s gay pride festivities.<\/p>\n<p>IBM &#8211; which also has a gay-lesbian-bisexual-transgendered &#8220;task force&#8221; &#8211; should be a place where people feel comfortable being openly gay, according to the corporation&#8217;s vice-president of workforce diversity.
