{"id":4514,"date":"2009-06-04T16:24:34","date_gmt":"2009-06-04T20:24:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/anglicansamizdat.wordpress.com\/?p=4514"},"modified":"2009-06-04T16:24:34","modified_gmt":"2009-06-04T20:24:34","slug":"obama-exerts-his-charm-in-egypt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/obama-exerts-his-charm-in-egypt\/","title":{"rendered":"Obama exerts his charm in Egypt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In Thursday\u2019s speech in Cairo, Obama <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/2009\/06\/04\/obama-overture-hamas-suggests-inevitability-terror-groups-dominance\/\" target=\"_blank\">declared<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I&#8217;ve come here to Cairo to seek a new beginning       between the United States and Muslims around the world &#8212; one based upon mutual interest and mutual respect.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/2009\/06\/04\/obama-overture-hamas-suggests-inevitability-terror-groups-dominance\/\" target=\"_blank\">gently chided Hamas<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Hamas does have support among some Palestinians, but they also have to recognize they have responsibilities. To play a role in fulfilling Palestinian aspirations, to unify the Palestinian people, Hamas must put an end to violence, recognize past agreements, recognize Israel&#8217;s right to exist,&#8221; Obama said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>but didn\u2019t bother to mention <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freerepublic.com\/focus\/f-news\/2154254\/posts\" target=\"_blank\">this<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Hamas members of the Palestinian Legislative Council in Gaza have approved a new bill &#8220;to implement Koranic punishments,&#8221; including hand amputation, crucifixion, corporal punishment and execution. Drinking, owning or producing wine is punished by 40 lashes, while drinking in public adds three months&#8217; imprisonment. Several laws are directed against Hamas&#8217;s Palestinian rivals, including a law intended to inhibit non-Hamas negotiators by sentencing to death anyone who was &#8220;appointed to negotiate with a foreign government on a Palestinian issue and negotiated against Palestinians&#8217; interest.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>For the New Beginning, as long as there\u2019s no waterboarding, Obama can overlook the occasional execution, amputation and crucifixion.<\/p>\n<p>He also forgot to mention that at home he has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boston.com\/news\/nation\/articles\/2009\/06\/02\/obama_ushers_in_gay_pride_month\/\" target=\"_blank\">ushered in<\/a> Gay Pride Month;\u00a0 perhaps, since the US is apparently <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.spectator.co.uk\/melaniephillips\/3665171\/a-statement-or-an-aspiration.thtml\" target=\"_blank\">one of the largest Muslim countries in the world<\/a><\/em>, it will be followed by a month of <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/africa\/6940061.stm\" target=\"_blank\">Sharia stoning<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Surely, charm or no charm, his inconsistencies are going to cause the unravelling of Obama at some point.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In Thursday\u2019s speech in Cairo, Obama declared: I&#8217;ve come here to Cairo to seek a new beginning between the United States and Muslims around the world &#8212; one based upon mutual interest and mutual respect.
