{"id":4066,"date":"2009-05-05T19:09:05","date_gmt":"2009-05-06T00:09:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/anglicansamizdat.wordpress.com\/?p=4066"},"modified":"2009-05-05T19:09:05","modified_gmt":"2009-05-06T00:09:05","slug":"is-anyone-listening","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/is-anyone-listening\/","title":{"rendered":"Is anyone listening?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I remember in the 1990s I ran a program on my PC for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seti.org\/Page.aspx?pid=1241\" target=\"_blank\">SETI<\/a> (Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence).<\/p>\n<p>The idea was that SETI was listening to electro-magnetic energy from space to find intelligent life outside of earth; the program I ran was also running on many other PCs and analysed the data looking for a pattern.<\/p>\n<p>This search for intelligent life is the origin of Rowan William\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.americananglican.org\/report-from-acc-14-day-four\">Listening Process<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>That the Instruments of Communion commit themselves to a renewal of the Listening Process, and a real seeking of a common mind upon the issues which threaten to divide us.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The problem is the inverse of SETI: anyone saying anything intelligible is ignored. Yet, this is Rowan\u2019s hope for containing the chaos threatening the Anglican Communion. It is in vain: the ACoC and TEC are snakes and they are not listening: <em>Their poison is like the poison of a serpent: they are like the deaf adder that stoppeth her ear.
