{"id":28723,"date":"2020-12-17T20:39:20","date_gmt":"2020-12-18T01:39:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/?p=28723"},"modified":"2020-12-17T20:39:20","modified_gmt":"2020-12-18T01:39:20","slug":"diocese-of-niagara-closes-churches-for-christmas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/diocese-of-niagara-closes-churches-for-christmas\/","title":{"rendered":"Diocese of Niagara closes churches for Christmas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>That\u2019s one way to celebrate Christmas.<\/p>\n<p>From <a href=\"https:\/\/niagaraanglican.ca\/news\/hamilton-parishes-to-close-again-as-covd-19-cases-surge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Bishop issues new lockdown ministry guidelines for the city\u2019s parishes<br \/>\nPOSTED DECEMBER 15, 2020<\/p>\n<p>Effective December 15, Bishop Susan Bell has suspended all permissions to re-open for in-person worship previously granted to parishes within the City of Hamilton in accordance with the Amber Stage of the ecclesiastical province\u2019s re-opening framework.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile we have continued confidence in our pandemic protocols, this decision is being made as a sacrificial witness to the wider community that now is a time to stay at home for the love of our neighbours and in order to protect the most vulnerable in our communities,\u201d wrote Archdeacon Bill Mous, diocesan executive officer, in an email message to clergy and lay leaders.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Considering that most Diocese of Niagara churches are half empty at the best of times, I doubt that the \u201cwider community\u201d will even notice this \u201csacrificial witness\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Bishop Susan Bell has made another sacrifice: she sacrificed common sense, freedom of choice and freedom of religion on the altar of the god of the age by signing a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/12\/16\/world\/conversion-therapy-pledge.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">petition<\/a> to end gay conversion therapy.
