When minions were fired, they were aiding in \u201cright-sizing\u201d. A manager who had no minions was a \u201cfree floating apex\u201d who would soon be floating out the door.<\/p>\n<p>Church euphemisms bandied around at such times include \u201cprayerful discernment\u201d, \u201ca change coming\u201d, \u201ccalling me out\u201d, \u201ccalled into places and called out of places\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>And they are all <a href=\"https:\/\/www.anglicanjournal.com\/bishop-of-edmonton-called-away-from-diocesan-episcopal-ministry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>. Not that I am hinting that Alexander was fired: you can\u2019t fire a bishop. If you could there wouldn\u2019t be any. I have no idea.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Alexander announced her resignation in a <a href=\"https:\/\/edmonton.anglican.ca\/df_media\/W1siZiIsIjIwMjAvMDEvMjYvMTEvNTkvMzIvNzFlNWRjY2YtM2NmOS00NGU4LWE1N2UtMTNjYmM0ZDE1NTg2L0xldHRlciBmcm9tIEJpc2hvcCBKYW5lLnBkZiJdXQ\/Letter%20from%20Bishop%20Jane.pdf?sha=ebb77d61df7c2850\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">letter<\/a> January 26.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with the <em>Journal,<\/em> Alexander said that she had been feeling a change coming for a while. \u201cSometimes I think we think of discernment as something that happens once and then we go, \u2018There, you\u2019re done.\u2019 But that\u2019s never been my experience of it. I think we get called into places and called out of places, and I was aware\u2026easily a year ago, that something different was changing\u2026.
