{"id":26651,"date":"2019-01-04T13:48:46","date_gmt":"2019-01-04T18:48:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/?p=26651"},"modified":"2019-01-04T16:19:52","modified_gmt":"2019-01-04T21:19:52","slug":"an-anglican-suicide-study-guide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/an-anglican-suicide-study-guide\/","title":{"rendered":"An Anglican suicide study guide."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Anglican Church of Canada has published a study guide for its pamphlet \u201cIn Sure and Certain Hope\u201d, or, how to commit suicide inclusively with diverse missionality, while listening with a generous pastoral response as we journey together incarnationally.<\/p>\n<p>In keeping with its floundering response to same-sex marriage, the church isn\u2019t particularly interested in whether suicide is right or wrong: instead, it prefers to indulge in <em>conversations<\/em> about it, long and boring enough to drive all but the most resilient to\u2026.. suicide.<\/p>\n<p>The ACoC is an expert in suicide, of course, since it has been committing it institutionally for years.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-26652\" src=\"https:\/\/anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/noose1-199x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/noose1-199x300.jpg 199w, https:\/\/www.anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/noose1.jpg 530w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 199px) 100vw, 199px\" \/>From <a href=\"https:\/\/www.anglicanjournal.com\/study-guide-encourages-anglicans-to-grapple-with-realities-of-medical-assistance-in-dying\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Created as a companion piece to In Sure and Certain Hope, the Anglican resource on physician-assisted dying, the study guide encourages groups to consider the topic in terms of pastoral response, rather than ethical debate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat does it mean to \u2018be present\u2019 to someone who is dying, and to \u2018provide care\u2019? What care do I want to experience when I am dying? Can I provide care for somebody who has very different values from mine?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>These are some of the questions posed in a new <u>study guide<\/u>\u00a0aimed at helping Anglicans reflect on and respond to Canadian legislation regarding medical assistance in dying.<\/p>\n<p>The Rev.
