{"id":26104,"date":"2018-06-27T08:22:51","date_gmt":"2018-06-27T12:22:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/?p=26104"},"modified":"2018-06-28T15:02:01","modified_gmt":"2018-06-28T19:02:01","slug":"a-bishop-cycles-for-reconciliation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/a-bishop-cycles-for-reconciliation\/","title":{"rendered":"A bishop cycles for reconciliation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When I read that Bishop Rob Hardwick is <em>\u201cis cycling across Canada in the name of unity, healing and reconciliation\u201d<\/em>, I thought to myself, \u201cat last someone in the Anglican Church of Canada is symbolically making amends for the shabby treatment of conservatives who have left the ACoC.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I was wrong, of course; he is cycling to reconcile with Indigenous people, a worthy endeavour, no doubt, but so much easier than reconciling with those with whom one is still at war.<\/p>\n<p>From <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sootoday.com\/local-news\/anglican-bishop-riding-for-reconciliation-967540\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-26105\" src=\"https:\/\/anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/06-26-2018-cyclingbishopjh01.jpgw630-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"202\" height=\"139\" \/>The Right Reverend Rob Hardwick is cycling across Canada in the name of unity, healing and reconciliation.<br \/>\nHardwick, who has served as the bishop of the Diocese of Qu\u2019Appelle for the past five years, knows about the often uneasy relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people in Canada.<\/p>\n<p>He says that his diocese, located in southern Saskatchewan, had the longest-running residential school in Canada.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe pain of that, the pain of that history, is with us,\u201d Hardwick said. \u201cThe pain of so many people that have lost their culture and have been abused in various ways.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis bike ride is a form of penance, in a way, but it\u2019s also to try and bring reconciliation.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The peddling bishop had a little mishap on his journey: the less than green SUV and camper that were following him <a href=\"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/index.php\/2018\/06\/22\/suv-and-camper-strike-rock-cut-at-moose-lake\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ended up in a ditch<\/a>.
