From here<\/a>:<\/p>\nBoys should be free to choose to wear a tutu, tiara or heels, and girls to wear toolbelts and superhero capes, the Church of England has said in new guidance issued to its schools.<\/p>\n
The advice also calls on teachers to avoid using labels that might alienate children\u2019s behaviour \u201cjust because it does not conform to gender stereotypes\u201d.<\/p>\n
The updated guidance for its 4,700 schools, titled Valuing All God\u2019s Children<\/a> [pdf], follows advice issued three years ago that covered homophobic bullying. It has now been expanded to include transphobic and biphobic bullying.<\/p>\n
The church advises that nursery and primary school should be a time of \u201ccreative exploration\u201d, and that pupils should feel free to \u201ctry out the many cloaks of identity\u201d and \u201cexplore the possibilities of who they might be without judgment or derision\u201d.<\/p>\n
In the guidance, the archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, warns that homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying causes \u201cprofound damage leading to higher levels of mental health disorders, self-harm, depression and suicide\u201d.<\/p>\n
The advice adds: \u201cPupils need to be able to play with the many cloaks of identity (sometimes quite literally with the dressing-up box). Children should be at liberty to explore the possibilities of who they might be without judgement or derision.<\/p>\n
