{"id":25124,"date":"2017-06-27T08:33:10","date_gmt":"2017-06-27T12:33:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/?p=25124"},"modified":"2017-06-27T08:33:10","modified_gmt":"2017-06-27T12:33:10","slug":"marriage-canon-cogs-still-turning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/marriage-canon-cogs-still-turning\/","title":{"rendered":"Marriage canon CoGS still turning"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Council of General Synod met recently to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anglican.ca\/news\/highlights-council-general-synod-june-24-2017\/30019722\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">discuss, among other things<\/a>, the change to the marriage canon to allow same-sex marriage. The Indigenous representative seems less than happy with the fact that the report \u201cThis Holy Estate\u201d has not been translated into Indigenous languages. Moreover, some dioceses are already marrying same sex couples ahead of the 2019 vote to approve them \u2013 if they can find any willing specimens, that is.<\/p>\n<p>What the Indigenous member should realise is that,\u00a0since same-sex marriages are already occurring, the report is irrelevant: it is a <em>fait accompli<\/em>, no report, listening process, vote, conversation or discussion \u2013 respectful or otherwise \u2013 is going to make a blind bit of difference. Anglican conservatives have, as usual, been conned and outmaneuvered.
