{"id":24936,"date":"2017-04-20T08:59:37","date_gmt":"2017-04-20T12:59:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/?p=24936"},"modified":"2017-04-20T11:33:05","modified_gmt":"2017-04-20T15:33:05","slug":"a-earth-day-prayer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/a-earth-day-prayer\/","title":{"rendered":"An Earth Day prayer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Earth Day is almost upon us, so Fred Hiltz, Mark MacDonald and Susan Johnson have pooled the considerable resources of their little green brain cells to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anglican.ca\/news\/earth-day-message-anglican-lutheran-leaders\/30018411\/\" target=\"_blank\">pray for it<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Jesus&#8217; Resurrection has become a handy illustration of what really matters: spring is just around the corner!<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>As we celebrate this great mystery we recall how he helped us understand death and resurrection using the image of a seed planted and coming out of the earth as a new growth\u2014budding, bursting, blooming, bearing beautiful fruit.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Our churches are committed to responsible stewardship of the earth.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That&#8217;s why the ACoC is demolishing so many of them.<\/p>\n<p>The Carbon Pariah receives an honourable mention, even though the ACoC is <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright \" src=\"https:\/\/anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/29U4497.jpg\" width=\"192\" height=\"129\" \/>using diesel fume spewing bulldozers to demolish its churches:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>We recommend that you or your congregation get involved with the Faith Commuter Challenge, a creative way to reduce your carbon footprint and raise awareness of the impact of our actions<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Naturally, we have muddled \u2013 twisted, really \u2013 wording to prompt right Gaia thinking: <em>world<\/em> \u2013 as in \u201cfor God so love the world\u201d here seems to mean \u201cearth\u201d rather than \u201cpeople\u201d:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Through our Lenten Journey to Easter we have been reminded once again that Jesus offered his whole life and death for the love of the world<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Speaking of God, Hiltz doesn\u2019t, he refers to <em>Creator <\/em>instead, an Indigenous metaphysical replacement that Hiltz seems more comfortable with these days. Or perhaps he is referring to the process of Darwinian evolution.<\/p>\n<p>Likewise, as far as I know, Father and Son have not made guest appearances in a Hilztian prayer for decades and, by the end of the prayer, the Holy Spirit has metamorphosed into \u201cSpirit One\u201d; who was Spirit Zero, I wonder?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Earth Day is almost upon us, so Fred Hiltz, Mark MacDonald and Susan Johnson have pooled the considerable resources of their little green brain cells to pray for it.
