{"id":24248,"date":"2016-07-22T14:51:12","date_gmt":"2016-07-22T18:51:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/?p=24248"},"modified":"2016-07-22T14:51:34","modified_gmt":"2016-07-22T18:51:34","slug":"sexual-discrimination-in-the-diocese-of-niagara","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/sexual-discrimination-in-the-diocese-of-niagara\/","title":{"rendered":"Sexual discrimination in the Diocese of Niagara"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Michael Bird&#8217;s latest statement on same-sex marriage informs us that he intends to adhere to <a href=\"http:\/\/niagaraanglican.ca\/news\/bishop-reaffirms-commitment-to-equal-marriage\" target=\"_blank\">this<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Accordingly, and in concert with several other bishops of the Anglican Church of Canada, it is my intention to immediately exercise this authority to respond to the sacramental needs of the LGBTQ2 community in the Diocese of Niagara. In the absence of any nationally approved liturgy, I am authorizing The Witnessing and Blessing of a Marriage and The Celebration and Blessing of a Marriage 2 for use in our diocese. These newly created rites of The Episcopal Church in the United States of America may be used for the marriage of any duly qualified couples. Clergy intending to use these rites will, for the time being, be required to notify the Bishop\u2019s Office in advance.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In practice, this means marrying two people in a <em>\u201ccommitted adult same-sex relationship\u201d<\/em>. The problem is, Bird also says he intends <em>\u201cto respond to the sacramental needs of the LGBTQ2 community in the Diocese of Niagara\u201d<\/em>. The rite Bird intends to use <em>\u201cmay be used for the marriage of any duly qualified <strong>couples<\/strong>\u201d<\/em>. Not threesomes.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cB\u201d in LGBQT2 represents bisexuals.
