In my profession, words like \u201cinterface\u201d, \u201cthroughput\u201d and \u201cbinary\u201d have escaped from their original technical context and now run amok free from the confines of meaning, to be overused by people who have nothing to say.<\/p>\n<p>That leads me to bishop Colin Johnson who, in gracing us with yet more of his pleonastic rambling on the recent general synod, has come up with a word destined to be overused by Anglican clerics everywhere: \u201cambiguity\u201d. It is the only concrete belief left to the Anglican Church of Canada \u2013 the belief that contradictory beliefs can co-exist in the same belief system.<\/p>\n<p>From <a href=\"http:\/\/www.toronto.anglican.ca\/2016\/07\/18\/archbishop-johnson-shares-thoughts-on-general-synod\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe freedom of conscience in the Anglican experience is not only in superficial matters but even as we approach critical doctrinal issues \u2013 how we have understood baptism, the Eucharist, the scriptures, the outward and the inward expression of our faith.\u00a0 We have a broad and messy tent.\u00a0 Personally I\u2019d like to clean it up, but I have lived long enough and I have been ordained long enough to know that such a house cleaning is more about me making the church to be what I would be comfortable with.\u00a0 It usually has little to do with how God wants it to be.\u00a0 The Anglican Church is an uncomfortable place for those who cannot deal with ambiguity.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In every profession there are words that become overused to the point of exhaustion.
