{"id":23802,"date":"2016-02-27T22:17:02","date_gmt":"2016-02-28T03:17:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/?p=23802"},"modified":"2016-02-27T22:18:07","modified_gmt":"2016-02-28T03:18:07","slug":"the-anglican-problem-condensed-into-two-words-for-me","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/the-anglican-problem-condensed-into-two-words-for-me\/","title":{"rendered":"The Anglican problem condensed into two words \u2013 for me"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Michael Curry, Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church, tells us that marrying same-sex couples will continue in TEC because it is not contrary to the core doctrine of the church.<\/p>\n<p>More specifically, he says that <em>\u201cFor me, marriage is not part of core doctrine\u201d. <\/em> Therein lies the problem: he is unconcerned whether marriage is actually part of core doctrine or not because <em>for him<\/em> it isn\u2019t. Truth is relative, doctrine is solipsistic, what is doctrine <em>for me<\/em> may not be <em>for you. <\/em>Objective truth doesn\u2019t exist or is, at best unknowable and irrelevant \u2013 at least, it is<em> for him.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>No matter how heavily they disguise it as piety, the fact remains that TEC and the Anglican Church of Canada have constructed their own perverse doctrinal house of cards; it is already falling about their ears and the faster if falls, the more furiously the bishops, like demented gargoyles, hack at the foundations.<\/p>\n<p>To look on the bright side, though: <a href=\"http:\/\/biblehub.com\/joshua\/24-15.htm\" target=\"_blank\">But as <strong>for me<\/strong> and my household, we will serve the LORD<\/a><\/p>\n<p>From <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anglican.ink\/article\/bishop-currys-remarks-feb-2016-meeting-executive-council\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a> (my emphasis):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Many believed that marriage is part of core doctrine. \u00a0No individual church can change core doctrine. \u00a0Many felt that the expansion of who may be married on our part was a change in church doctrine. \u00a0Therefore it was in part on that basis that many felt that we had overstepped our authority as a province. I didn\u2019t agree with that but I respect that that was the understanding of many. \u00a0<strong>For me<\/strong>, marriage is not part of core doctrine. The doctrine of the Holy Trinity is core doctrine. \u00a0The doctrine of who Jesus Christ is \u2013 wholly God and wholly human \u2013 is doctrine. \u00a0The articles of the Creeds are doctrine. \u00a0The Holy Scriptures and the Old and New Testament are core doctrine. \u00a0Other sections of the Chicago\u2013 Lambeth Quadrilateral are core doctrine.
