{"id":23069,"date":"2015-06-01T17:32:32","date_gmt":"2015-06-01T21:32:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/?p=23069"},"modified":"2015-06-01T17:59:39","modified_gmt":"2015-06-01T21:59:39","slug":"church-of-england-considering-calling-god-she","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/church-of-england-considering-calling-god-she\/","title":{"rendered":"Church of England considering calling God \u201cshe\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over the last ten years the Church of England has lost <a href=\"http:\/\/rt.com\/uk\/263693-anglican-church-decrease-believers\/\" target=\"_blank\">4.5 million members<\/a> whereas the number of Muslims in the UK has increased.<\/p>\n<p>To stem the tide, the CofE is considering doing more of what has already prompted so many to depart: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/newsbeat\/article\/32958213\/god-is-neither-she-nor-he-say-anglican-priests\" target=\"_blank\">call God \u201cshe\u201d<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Most people think of God as a bearded man in the sky&#8230; probably white himself. This is not just a gender discussion,&#8221; says Rev Stowell.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think if [young people] are seeing people saying that God is not an old, white man in the sky and that God is inclusive of everybody, then that will interest people, especially if they&#8217;ve got the idea that Christianity is male, pale and stale.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If we&#8217;re debunking that myth&#8230; of course that&#8217;s going to bring people to explore faith more.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Muslims have no plans to similarly self-destruct by calling God \u201cshe\u201d and, as yet, the CofE\u2019s inclusivity does not extend to transgendering Satan \u2013 insofar as they still believe in her, of course.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over the last ten years the Church of England has lost 4.5 million members whereas the number of Muslims in the UK has increased.
