He managed to attract an interesting bunch including, as I recall on one show, Norman Mailer and William F Buckley. The point of the broadcast was to ask <em>why<\/em> things are as they are instead of the usual <em>how<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Nothing much has changed: few people are interested in the <em>why<\/em> of things \u2013 in fact \u201cwhy\u201d has almost come to mean \u201chow\u201d.
