{"id":22134,"date":"2014-10-12T05:39:02","date_gmt":"2014-10-12T09:39:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/?p=22134"},"modified":"2014-10-12T14:13:59","modified_gmt":"2014-10-12T18:13:59","slug":"pope-recognises-acna-archbishop-of-canterbury-doesnt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/pope-recognises-acna-archbishop-of-canterbury-doesnt\/","title":{"rendered":"Pope recognises ACNA, Archbishop of Canterbury doesn\u2019t"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/worldnews\/the-pope\/11155320\/Pope-Francis-signals-blessing-to-breakaway-traditionalist-US-Anglican-church.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Pope Francis has signalled his blessing to the breakaway traditionalist American church at the centre of the split which has divided the 80 million strong worldwide Anglican Communion over the issue of sexuality.<\/p>\n<p>He sent a message offering his \u201cprayers and support\u201d to Archbishop Foley Beach, the new leader of the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA), the conservative movement which broke away from The Episcopal Church after the ordination of the first openly gay bishop.<\/p>\n<p>[\u2026.]<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAssure him [Archbishop Foley] of my prayers and support at this moment and in the future as he leads the Church at this very important moment of revival and mission.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>[\u2026.]<\/p>\n<p>in an interview last week, Archbishop Welby underlined his view that ACNA is \u201cnot part of the Anglican Communion\u201d.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Pope has it right: ACNA is a catalyst for revival.<\/p>\n<p>Although the Pope didn\u2019t say it, Establishment Anglicanism represented by Canterbury and North America is an agent of decay.<\/p>\n<p>The fruitless <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anglicancommunion.org\/ministry\/ecumenical\/dialogues\/catholic\/arcic\/docs\/gift_of_authority.cfm\" target=\"_blank\">ARCIC meanderings<\/a> have fizzled into endless vapid<em> dialogue<\/em>. It would be satisfying if some type of unity could be achieved between ACNA and the Roman Catholic church while Canterbury is still refusing to acknowledge the obvious \u2013 that ACNA really is a member of the Anglican Communion.
