{"id":21292,"date":"2014-04-14T10:25:31","date_gmt":"2014-04-14T14:25:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/?p=21292"},"modified":"2014-04-14T11:02:10","modified_gmt":"2014-04-14T15:02:10","slug":"welby-and-hiltz-discuss-sexuality-and-reconciliation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/welby-and-hiltz-discuss-sexuality-and-reconciliation\/","title":{"rendered":"Welby and Hiltz discuss sexuality and reconciliation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Read it all <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anglicanjournal.com\/articles\/welby-hiltz-discuss-sexuality-reconciliation\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>When Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby met with the primate, Archbishop Fred Hiltz, he was \u201cvery interested\u201d in the work of the Anglican Church of Canada\u2019s commission on the marriage canon because of the reality that the Church of England will have to wrestle with the issue of same-sex marriage following its legislation in the U.K.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNotwithstanding the declared position of the Church of England at this moment, he [Welby] is very conscious, of course, that there\u2019s going to be a fair amount of pressure from within the Church of England to at least have some discussion around that [same-sex marriage],\u201d said Hiltz in an interview with the <em>Anglican Journal<\/em>. \u201cHe hoped that we would stay in touch over the work of the commission, [because] inside the Church of England, they will need to have the same conversation.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Here we have a rare example of a clear statement by an Archbishop of Canterbury. The Church of England will be following in the Anglican Church of Canada\u2019s footsteps: conversations about same-sex blessings; decline in attendance; dioceses performing same-sex blessings; further decline in attendance; conversations about same-sex marriage; full steam ahead to extinction:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>During their two-hour meeting April 8, Hiltz said Welby was interested in how the church has dealt with the conflict over human sexuality, in particular, how the 2010 General Synod in Halifax dealt with the issue in a non-parliamentary manner and how there has been \u201ccontinuing conversation\u201d about the matter. Hiltz quoted Welby as having said, \u201cYou\u2019re actually on the frontline of where we\u2019re going to be eventually. You\u2019ve been on a journey; it hasn\u2019t been an easy [one]\u2014 it has been conflicted at times, but you stuck with it.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Anglican Church of Canada has indeed been on the frontline of dealing with \u201cthe conflict over human sexuality\u201d: it sues those who refuse to go along with it.
