{"id":20473,"date":"2013-10-15T08:51:59","date_gmt":"2013-10-15T12:51:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/?p=20473"},"modified":"2013-10-15T09:16:29","modified_gmt":"2013-10-15T13:16:29","slug":"a-comparison-of-two-defamation-lawsuits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/a-comparison-of-two-defamation-lawsuits\/","title":{"rendered":"A comparison of two defamation lawsuits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Not an exhaustive comparison, just the highlights.<\/p>\n<p>Ezra Levant <a href=\"http:\/\/news.nationalpost.com\/2013\/10\/14\/exceedingly-political-libel-case-pits-free-speech-advocate-ezra-levant-against-master-of-lawfare\/\" target=\"_blank\">is in court today<\/a> fighting:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201can exceedingly political lawsuit\u201d designed to shut him out of public debate, brought by a \u201cmaster of lawfare.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The details, so far as we know, include:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Court documents indicate this week\u2019s trial will turn on Mr. Awan\u2019s claim that Mr. Levant, on his blog in 2009, \u201cvariously described [him] as \u201cKhurrum Awan the liar,\u201d \u201cstupid, a \u201cfool,\u201d a \u201cserial, malicious, money-grubbing liar,\u201d and \u201cunequivocally implied that he was an anti-Semite and perjurer.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Mr. Awan is asking for $50,000 in damages.<\/p>\n<p>I will be attending Discoveries on Thursday for Michael Bird\u2019s defamation suit against me.
