Successive archbishops of Canterbury have tried to hold the communion together, but failed to use their influence to bring cohesion to autonomous provinces, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Anis said the recommendations of primates meetings have not been carried out. The Lambeth Conference in 2008 was characterized by what he called \u201cdivide and rule\u201d tactics, with no decisions being made.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Justin Welby appears to be determined to turn a blind eye to the disintegrating Anglican Communion and places his hope in <em>\u201cmission and in reconciliation\u201d<\/em>. Oddly, he seems to entirely miss the point that those who are <em>\u201cfocusing on one or two sins\u201d<\/em> are not conservatives but liberals: when a faction in a church \u2013 North American Anglicanism in this case &#8211; decides to bless something that is sinful \u2013 and Welby is acknowledging it is sinful \u2013 it is the faction that is doing the focussing.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In a brief address, Welby said that in every generation, church members have thought their problems were \u201cterminal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChurches are sinful,\u201d said Welby. \u201cNone of us are right. The trouble with the Anglican Communion will not be solved by focusing on one or two sins. All of us need to come to the cross.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said in different contexts the problems may be different \u2014 sexuality, persecution, corruption, abuse of power, complacency, poverty.<\/p>\n<p>Welby said Anglicans are called to be bridge builders, who will \u201cfind ourselves struggling with unity.\u201d He sees the future growth of the communion in mission and in reconciliation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Bishop Patrick Yu, a tame <a href=\"http:\/\/anglicanplanet.net\/interviews\/2009\/3\/2\/march-2009-patrick-yu.html\" target=\"_blank\">faux-conservative<\/a> Toronto bishop, in what can only be a case of genetic predisposition to obstinate optimism in the face of overwhelming contrary evidence, thinks: <em>\u201cOur problems are not so intractable\u201d<\/em>. \u00a0He also can\u2019t understand why the ACoC is <em>\u201clumped\u201d<\/em> with TEC; I can\u2019t understand why someone political enough to be a bishop can&#8217;t understand the implication of inviting Katharine Jefferts Schori to the last few ACoC general synods.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe are always lumped with the Americans,\u201d he said.
