{"id":17353,"date":"2012-09-12T21:31:21","date_gmt":"2012-09-13T01:31:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/?p=17353"},"modified":"2012-09-12T21:31:21","modified_gmt":"2012-09-13T01:31:21","slug":"the-term-anglican-is-not-a-registered-trademark","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/the-term-anglican-is-not-a-registered-trademark\/","title":{"rendered":"The term \u201cAnglican\u201d is not a registered trademark"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Anglican Network in Canada church, St. George\u2019s, is planning on a new building in Burlington.<\/p>\n<p>From the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.insidehalton.com\/news\/article\/1493200--church-proposed-on-business-land\" target=\"_blank\">Burlington Post<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The city\u2019s planning and building department recommended that a 0.6 hectare piece of employment land at 4691 Palladium Way be rezoned to allow the construction of a place of worship.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Post<\/em> has learned it will be an Anglican church.<\/p>\n<p>The site is located just west of Appleby Line, bordering Hwy. 407, in Alton.<\/p>\n<p>Community development committee approved the recommendation.<\/p>\n<p>It will go before council on Sept. 4.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Permission for the rezoning was granted at the September 4<sup>th<\/sup> meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Notice that the Burlington Post reported that the new building will be for an <em>Anglican<\/em> Church. This does not sit well with the Diocese of Niagara, a self-proclaimed inclusive and affirming diocese. A number of its clergy lament that the word <em>Anglican<\/em> is not a registered trademark, so, much as they would like to, they don\u2019t have exclusive \u2013 and I do apologise for my blatant and unfeeling use of the \u201ce\u201d word &#8211; \u00a0use of it in the Niagara region.<\/p>\n<p>From <a href=\"http:\/\/www.insidehalton.com\/opinion\/letters\/article\/1501273--new-church-part-of-breakaway-group\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>We want to clarify the new church is being proposed by the Anglican Network in Canada, a group that broke away from the Anglican Church of Canada in 2009 to protest our actions in favour of the full inclusion of homosexual persons and the affirmation of their committed relationships.<\/p>\n<p>The six existing Anglican churches serving Burlington are all part of the Anglican Church of Canada. We are diverse, vibrant faith communities focused on welcoming all and making a positive difference in Burlington.<\/p>\n<p>We know some of our parishioners were confused by the article.<\/p>\n<p>The term \u201cAnglican\u201d is not a registered trademark and its usage is not restricted.
