It is good to see judges taking an interest in theology. It\u2019s a pity that this particular specimen seems to think that God is Canadian and is bound by Canadian law – or lack of it, really, since there is no Canadian law that limits abortion.<\/p>\n
From here<\/a>:<\/p>\n TORONTO, Ontario, March 22, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) \u2013 An Ontario Court of Justice judge erupted in a lengthy, angry tirade against pro-life activist Mary Wagner \u2013 and ejected a spectator from the public gallery \u2013 in a downtown Toronto courtroom Wednesday. The judge then sent Wagner to jail for an additional 92 days, added to 88 days already served prior to trial, after finding her guilty of mischief and two counts of failing to comply with probation orders.<\/p>\n The charges related to Wagner\u2019s November 8 arrest at the site of the Bloor West Village \u201cWomen\u2019s Clinic.\u201d Wagner has been arrested on several occasions for peacefully entering abortion facilities in Toronto, where she presents women in the waiting room with a rose and offers them pro-life counseling.<\/p>\n The remarkable scene played itself out after Crown attorney Derek Ishak and defense counsel Russell Browne made a joint submission to Mr. Justice S. Ford Clements for time served plus a three-year probationary term. But Clements emphatically rejected the submission.<\/p>\n \u201cShe can sit in jail, if that\u2019s the only way to protect people,\u201d he fulminated, calling Wagner \u201ccowardly\u201d for \u201cabusing other human beings\u201d and not having the courage to make her views known through other channels. \u201cThis is an extraordinary waste of resources. Get a grip!\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cYou don\u2019t get it, do you? What\u2019s the rule of law? You\u2019re required to abide by it \u2026 You\u2019ve lost the right as a citizen to be anywhere near an abortion clinic or to speak to an employee,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cYou\u2019re wrong and your God\u2019s wrong,\u201d he continued. \u201cYou have complete contempt \u2026 There is a right to (abortion) in this country \u2026 You don\u2019t have a right to cause (abortion-seeking women) extra pain and grief the way you do.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201c[Abortion] is legal,\u201d he continued, \u201cthat\u2019s all you have to understand \u2026 You start causing people emotional pain and harm, you think that\u2019s okay?\u201d<\/p>\n He then asked Wagner whether she would stay away from abortion sites for three years as required by the proposed terms of probation.<\/p>\n \u201cI will not,\u201d Wagner replied firmly.<\/p>\n \u201cThen you\u2019re going to jail,\u201d said Clements.<\/p>\n [\u2026]<\/p>\n Clements was unmoved. \u201cYou have, in some measure, displayed utter contempt for the courts and the rights of others,\u201d he said. \u201cYou appear to be governed by a higher moral order than the laws of our country.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cYour determination to break the law is a potential threat to the well-being of society and plants the seeds of lawlessness, perhaps even anarchy \u2026 You are unable to accord some civility and respect to others.
