{"id":15614,"date":"2012-02-08T16:28:26","date_gmt":"2012-02-08T21:28:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/?p=15614"},"modified":"2012-02-08T16:28:26","modified_gmt":"2012-02-08T21:28:26","slug":"police-seize-pro-life-posters-in-calgary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/police-seize-pro-life-posters-in-calgary\/","title":{"rendered":"Police seize pro-life posters in Calgary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0kKTTmPenqQ?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The excuse seems to have been that the posters were \u201cobscene\u201d, a contention I find easy to believe; the problem is, the posters are considerably less obscene than the act they depict.<\/p>\n<p>While on the subject of obscene images, in Canada it is illegal to sell a package of cigarettes that is not covered in images of equal aesthetic obscenity (even the Huffington Post thinks they\u2019re <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.ca\/2011\/09\/27\/cigarette-packaging-march_n_982905.html\" target=\"_blank\">horrifying<\/a>) to those of gory aborted babies. This is done, apparently because the government of Canada wants to \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/life\/health\/new-health\/health-news\/ottawa-sets-deadline-to-add-larger-graphic-warnings-to-cigarette-packages\/article2181686\/\" target=\"_blank\">horrify smokers into not smoking<\/a>\u201d and using gory photographs is a good way to do it; if children see them, so much the better.<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to applying the same tactics to horrifying mothers and doctors into not aborting, the opposite rules seem to apply.<\/p>\n<p>This must be because, on the scale of Canuck-confused societal evils, killing unborn babies is a mere peccadillo while smoking is the foremost scourge of our age.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; The excuse seems to have been that the posters were \u201cobscene\u201d, a contention I find easy to believe; the problem is, the posters are considerably less obscene than the act they depict.
