{"id":14042,"date":"2011-08-31T14:21:59","date_gmt":"2011-08-31T18:21:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/?p=14042"},"modified":"2011-08-31T14:21:59","modified_gmt":"2011-08-31T18:21:59","slug":"bishop-john-chapman-says-that-st-albans-ottawa-is-about-to-become-totally-welcoming-and-inclusive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/bishop-john-chapman-says-that-st-albans-ottawa-is-about-to-become-totally-welcoming-and-inclusive\/","title":{"rendered":"Bishop John Chapman says that St. Alban\u2019s, Ottawa is about to become &quot;totally welcoming and inclusive\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Obviously, until the Diocese of Ottawa took possession of the building in July 2011, the parish specialised in being unwelcoming and exclusive \u2013 which is odd, since the old unwelcoming St. Alban\u2019s has about 100 people <em>[correction: the number is 200]<\/em> attending its Sunday services and the welcoming New St. Alban\u2019s had absolutely nobody until the diocese <a href=\"..\/..\/diocese-of-ottawa\/anglican-potemkin-congregation-alert\/\">moved another parish\u2019s congregation<\/a> into the building.<\/p>\n<p>What the bishop <em>really<\/em> means, of course, is that the New St. Alban\u2019s believes that active homosexuality is a Biblically approved lifestyle: the new rector, Rev. Mark Whittall, eager to reinforce the point, <a href=\"..\/homosexuality-and-the-church\/anglicans-in-the-ottawa-pride-parade-2011\/\">marched<\/a> in the Ottawa Pride parade.<\/p>\n<p>From <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ottawa.anglican.ca\/crosstalk\/Sept_Crosstalk-web.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a> (page 13):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>As you probably know, the Diocese has returned to St. Alban&#8217;s more than three years after the previous clergy resigned from the Anglican Church of Canada to join the breakaway Anglican Network in Canada. It is most regrettable that the parish felt it needed to take this step because they opposed the direction the national church was taking.<\/p>\n<p>However, through mediation and negotiation an agreement was reached for the clergy to leave the church so that we could re-establish the Anglican Church of Canada here.<\/p>\n<p>We should point out that only the clergy were forced to leave &#8211; the members of the congregation are most welcome to stay. We also hope to build up membership with the help of former parishioners<\/p>\n<p>who were alienated by the direction taken in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>We are recovering our ancient mission as an Anglican church to be totally welcoming and inclusive.
