{"id":13632,"date":"2011-07-18T20:45:33","date_gmt":"2011-07-19T00:45:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/?p=13632"},"modified":"2011-07-18T20:45:33","modified_gmt":"2011-07-19T00:45:33","slug":"political-cowardice-on-abortion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/political-cowardice-on-abortion\/","title":{"rendered":"Political cowardice on abortion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From <a href=\"http:\/\/toronto.ctv.ca\/servlet\/an\/local\/CTVNews\/20110718\/ontario-election-hudak-conservatives-abortion-110718\/20110718\/?hub=TorontoNewHome&amp;cid=top\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Ontario Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Hudak appeared to shy away from his previous anti-abortion position Monday, saying he doesn&#8217;t plan to re-open the issue if he wins the Oct. 6 provincial election.<\/p>\n<p>When he was running for the PC leadership in 2009, Hudak&#8217;s representatives told the Association for Reformed Political Action he is pro-life and had signed a petition calling for the defunding of abortions and to support doctors who don&#8217;t want to perform the procedures.<\/p>\n<p>But Hudak seemed reluctant to confirm he had signed a petition when asked about it by reporters Monday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I may have signed a petition from my riding in that respect, but listen, let me be clear: we are not reopening this debate,&#8221; said Hudak. &#8220;Just like the federal Parliament, we would not be reopening that issue.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>By not <em>reopening that issue<\/em>, Hudak has placed political expediency \u2013 the will to power \u2013 above confronting the greatest evil present today in Canadian society.<\/p>\n<p>In the struggle to preserve civilisation, that puts Canada somewhere <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/07\/15\/world\/europe\/15iht-russia15.html?_r=1\" target=\"_blank\">behind Russia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Pathetic.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From here: Ontario Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Hudak appeared to shy away from his previous anti-abortion position Monday, saying he doesn&#8217;t plan to re-open the issue if he wins the Oct. 6 provincial election.
