{"id":12957,"date":"2011-05-07T12:33:26","date_gmt":"2011-05-07T16:33:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/?p=12957"},"modified":"2011-05-07T12:33:26","modified_gmt":"2011-05-07T16:33:26","slug":"onward-druid-soldiers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/onward-druid-soldiers\/","title":{"rendered":"Onward Druid soldiers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-1383855\/Pagans-rejoice-Air-Force-Academy-opens-outdoor-chapel-Wiccans-Druids-earth-centred-worship-groups.html?ITO=1490\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>: <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-12958\" title=\"Wiccan army\" src=\"https:\/\/anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Wiccan-army.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"233\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The face of the military is changing.<\/p>\n<p>What used to be seen as a bastion for evangelical Christianity is now expanding its lists of faiths to include Wiccans and Druids.<\/p>\n<p>At the Air Force Academy in Colorado, a prayer circle and veritable Stonehenge on the Rockies will now serve as a place of worship for the academy&#8217;s neo-Pagans.<\/p>\n<p>The Colorado school has long faced criticism for only supporting evangelical Christianity.<\/p>\n<p>Lt Gen Michael Gould, the academy\u2019s superintendent, said before a ribbon cutting ceremony on the site on Tuesday: &#8216;This outdoor worship space is something we have created to help people of all religions.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>According to the Colorado Springs Gazette, the academy is home to about ten cadets who regularly attend &#8216;earth-centred&#8217; worship groups which include New Age religion, paganism, Wicca, druids and ancient Norse beliefs\u2026\u2026<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12960 alignright\" title=\"rowan druid\" src=\"https:\/\/anglicansamizdat.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/rowan-druid.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"189\" height=\"190\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Rev David Oringdreff, who heads a Wiccan congregation in Texas, offered prayers at Tuesday\u2019s ceremony and said: &#8216;Nowhere except for the United States of America would this be possible.&#8217;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Rowan Williams has expressed no discomfort whatsoever over this.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From here: The face of the military is changing.
