As the Canadian \u2018transgender\u2019 bill faces a final vote in the House of Commons Wednesday, the Catholic Organization for Life and Family (COLF) has condemned the legislation for seeking to impose \u201cnew social norms\u201d of \u201cgender ideology\u201d on society.<\/p>\n

\u201cDefending certain people from discrimination is one thing and it is a good thing,\u201d said Michelle Boulva, director of the organization, which was founded by the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops.\u00a0 \u201cBut using very exceptional cases to promote and impose new social norms is quite another and it is unacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bill C-389, which seeks to add \u201cgender identity\u201d and \u201cgender expression\u201d to the Canada Human Rights Act and the Criminal Code\u2019s hate crimes section, has been dubbed a \u2018bathroom bill\u2019 by pro-family leaders who warn that it would allow men who say they are women to use women\u2019s washrooms.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
